  1. I would not haul a carload of lens with me..Take the 28/200 and one wide angle...I have never been to Pima, but I have been yo several others. They are all very similar...I am attaching what is probably a copy of a rare photo..I do not think you will find one to ,take a picture of. If you do send me a copy. It is a B25G Mitchell medium bomber use extensively in the Western and South Pacfic areas during WWII for low level bombing and srafing I was crew chief on one of these for two or three years. It is very distive in that it has a 75mm cannon in the nose. It was very heavy armed and lethal. I would define it as the B17 of the Pacfic Theater<div>00Bdyv-22556084.thumb.jpg.b950abcebfdc611d5c982e59e15c635f.jpg</div>
  2. I just did a STUPID thing...I was editing about 150 pictures direct

from the flash card thru a "slide show"..deleting as I went

along..By not paying attention to what was on the screen I deleted

    the whole works..

I don't feel very good!!! Anyone have any "dumb pills"..Next time

download to my Lexar jump drive!!! And then edit from the Jump

    Drive..

  3. Joe

I use SC 17 cords with flip brackets on both of my cameras, D100-D70...One has a SB28DX and the other a 800 flash...Both work just great.. I do not think you would find any noticeable difference between the two cords you mentioned. I am not very tech minded but speak from expericence..I can not see why using them off axis would make any difference in their performance.

  4. One of the reasons I prefer this camera (besides being great) is

because of the "battery pack"...I can shoot some 600 shots or better

withour recharging..I have heard of various other numbers some in

the 8/900 range. As I am a big guy I like the weight of the camera

with a flip bracket on it.

It reminds me so much of my beloved F5..

There is little item I have never seen mentioned in this forum, a

Lexar Jump Drive..Like the old saying "if you don't have one, get

one" I have a 256 MG. They are about the size of a Swiss Army

fingernail knife and plugs into a USB port. It's greatest feature is

it allows me to download my flash card and will run a full

screen "slide show" making it very simple to edit as you view it and

then download them to a CD from the Lexar. Just a thought some of

you might be interested in. I have no connection with Lexar.

  5. By your question I gather that you are storing pictures on your computer..if it is of any benefit to you I use a file sequence numbering system on my D100. I have them processed at Photo Lab and the sequence number appears on the back of the photo and is never repeated..I download each event to a CD and number the CD with some remark what the pictures are and when and where they were made. To me storing pictures on your computer is a waste of space. I have never had a file or picture corrupted, quite often of this happens when storing them to your hard drive..I use Photo Shop for editing.

If you are printing your own pictures you can still use this system by previewing them on the LCD on the camera..It has complete information about the settings that were used and the number of the picture.

  6. The SB 28 is not totally supportive in using it with a DSLR..I use a SB28DX on both a D70 and D100. While an SB 800 probably has more useable features in DX photography I am well pleased with the SB28DX on either camera. Save yourself some money and get you a SB28DX..I have had a number of Nikon Speedlights for a number of years. The only thing I ever had to do with one is to put a new post on them that I have carelessly broken.
  7. I read in a post by SHEN in which he used a mechanical shutter

release to lock up mirror for cleaning CCD..Could someone elaborate

further on this...The only connection I can find is for a remote

electronic cable release and does not lock up the mirror..As I

understand it the D70 or D2's do not have a mirror lock up either..

  8. It is impossible to please everbody...I will keep my D100 and four D type lens and go my merry way happy in my ignorance...By the way, what is mirror flap? Some of you guys are real persnickety..
  9. The best way if you are into this kinda photography is with a set of strobes fired into umbrellas..Your can set any kinda a ratio you like. Any kind of back lighting you want..There are endless ways to do this with strobes...Flashes can do it but, not with the same results and ease as strobes...I guess this kinda suggestion really dates me from "the old school"..You can buy a good set of strobes cheaper than you can buy speedlights..
  10. I shoot with a D100..I have nothing but "D" type lens..I find it hard to believe that a "G" type or any other can beat the optics of a "D" type lens. They are extra sharp. In fact I just today from,E/Bay bought a super wide 20mm 2.8 "D" type lens to go along with the three others I have...They are much cheaper (used) than a newer "G"type and are just as good or better. Save youself a lot of money look around for "D" lens.
  11. As I remember the "old rule of thumb" was to under expose for snow and other light colored backgrounds and over expose for dark back ground...I never have to worry about such problems here in Houston..One thing I found necessary to do was get a 2stop ND filter for the bright sunshine because the ISO would not get below 200...Perhaps a ND filter might work on snow for you..
  12. I have two Nikon D type lenses ,24/120 and 28/200 that I use with

my D100. They are somewhat vintage, but they make very sharp 8X12

pictures. My needs are very basic but, am I really missing anything

by not upgrading to newer lenses of this size? Your opinons

appreciated. Iam a Shriner most of my time has been spent doing

photography for them the last nine years of children, parades and

other events. I am 82 years old, somewhat handicapped, but I am very

inquistiive and young at heart and when able doing travelouges of

the Southwestern part of the country in Texas,New Mexico,Arizona and

the West coast from Vancouver to SanDiego. For what it is worth, you

are really missing something if have not been to such places as

Monument Valley...You can really get wild there with you camera..Get

oudoors and get with it while you can..Be flexible with you

    photography.

  13. If you computer that can do it I would suggest you download to some thing like a Lexar Jump drive. I download all mine(edited) this way thru a card reader to the Jump Drive. I then down them all to a CD. By using this method you retain the orginal file and then play with them all you want to. All it takes a USB port on your computer and be able to burn a to CD. I do it all the time because I have to send a lot of pictures over the internet. To do this it is necessary to reduce the size of the file which is no problem. I download them back to the jump drive, edit them and send them on there way. I still have my orginal unedited file on the CD. I hope this makes sense to you..
  14. I have a Nikon D100. It makes very sharp images in most any mode

(JPEG normal and fine). Like everone else I am always seeking ways

to improve on this..I can afford a D2 model but, is the image

quality that much better..I am not really interested in how many

frames per second it shoots, that is not important for my purposes.

Iam only looking for improved image quality.

  15. Most all Canon,Nikon I suspect have "Moose Peterson" type critics..George Lepp (Canon ) the late Galen Rowell (Nikon)..Have you ever been to a George Lepp lecture...Nothing but praise for Canon and lot of criticism toward Nikon. George is great photographer, but he is nothing but a shill for Canon in Outdoor Photographer..
  16. Why is it you hardly see any mention made of the D100...It is one heck of a camera..It almost feels like an F5 in your hands when equipped a battery pack. It probably cost $2/300 more than a D70. I have a D70, but only use it as a back up..By looking at the Nikon forum you would think Nikon made only the D70 and D2 series. Make this something other than a D70 forum.
  17. Anthony

You can not go wrong with an F5... As far as I am concernd it is the best 35mm SLR ever made...There could not be any improvements on a F6 to amount to anything over an F5..Go for a F5.

  18. Iuse a D100 and a D70...On the D100 I use the file sequence and do not use it on the D70..I download both at the same time to a c/d which is given a disc number, date and event ..

.. I make hundreds a copies and have as yet had no problem...It is very simple to indentify each picture by putting the disc number and the picture number on the back of the picture. The picture number of the D100 is something like DSCN 2505 while on the D70 it is something like DSCN 0035..Works great for me..I use a Lexar Jump Drive which hold 256mgs to download to..If your computer is capable of handling it they make these jump drives up to 512 mgs; I never download to my hard drive...Just download to a jump drive, edit and put on a C/D...Maybe in the next world Nikon will make something like you want..

  19. I have a 24-120...It is really a great lens...I also have a Sigma 24/200 which I have found to be a very good lens and is much cheaper than Nikon..I use these on a D70 and a D100..I think the 18-70 and 24/85 are to limited in thier coverage...I would go for the 24/120..
