  1. Thank you Dieter. I updated Chris' post. Hope it is correct now.
  2. Note: Consider keeping uploads no larger than 1600 pixels on the long side when it matters, and sticking with 1000 pixels when the image feels no pain at that resolution. On data size/compression, try to keep things under 1mb, shooting for 600kb when you can stop there. Note that this includes photos hosted off-site (at Flickr, Photobucket, your own site, etc.). New to this thread? The general guidelines for these Wednesday threads are right here: https://www.photo.net/forums/topic/398109-guidelines-for-nikon-forum-wednesday-image-threads. For now, we're sticking with 1, 2, or 3 images per week as you see fit. Happy new year. A couple of bald eagle images captured on January 1. Similar to most birds of prey, female eagles are bigger. In this case the one of the right is the female.
  3. Bald eagle on new year's day
  4. I assume you hadn't received the 800mm PF yet when you were in La Jolla (near San Diego). I took that lens to Costa Rica and used it extensively for smaller birds.
  5. As 2023 coming to a close, let's try another image thread. The general rule is similar to Nikon Wednesday, but each member is limited to up to 5 images and they must have been captured in 2023: Up to a maximum of 5 images each. You can just post one image, 2 to 5 images in one post, or you may spread them into up to 5 different posts in this thread. Each image must have been captured with either a Nikon camera body and/or a Nikkor lens, but we won't verify that. Each image must have been captured within 2023, but of course we are not going to verify that either. For me, I am most happy with some of my concert images and some bird images from my trip to Costa Rica after Thanksgiving.
  6. A flame-colored tanager (Piranga bidentata) at a feeding station in Costa Rica. That feeding station is set up for bird photographers and of course uses fruits to attract birds. I suppose I can have a more "nature" image with some cropping.
  7. I bought a Zemlin lens cap for my 800mm/f6.3 PF, and that works very well. The 800 PF comes with one of those nylon caps with drawstrings that covers the entire front of the lens, but I prefer a conventional cap that takes up less space. I believe the Zemlin cap is 3D-printed.
  8. There is news reports on those huge waves up and down the California coast. Just be extra careful and not to get too close to the action, as it can be dangerous.
  9. I think most people buy those high-capacity CFx cards for video. For example, this morning I was testing my Z8, capturing ProRes 422 HQ 10-bit N-Log, 4K30p video. A 30-minute clip is just over 200G, and that is not even RAW. If one captures a wedding ceremony or some concert, using RAW, a 2TB card is not that much. For me, it is now fairly typical to capture over 1TB of video footage in an evening, over 2 to 3 cameras capturing video. Otherwise, I was in Costa Rica earlier this month. During a two-week trip, I captured around 25K HE* RAW still images on the Z8 and Z9 for a total of around 600G, but it is the video that is taking up all sorts of space.
  10. I too don't have that expensive lens, but I doubt that the HK-43 hoop is supposed to come apart. Replacement cost in the US is $1075, far more expensive than a lot of lenses.

For now, we're sticking with 1, 2, or 3 images per week as you see fit. Happy holidays. This is the final Nikon Wednesday for 2023. Here are a couple of birds images from the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge. Both images captured with the 800mm PF lens.
  12. B&H is selling two different 2TB CFexpress Type B cards @ $400 each. Neither the ProGrade nor the Delkin is the high-end version (which would have been ProGrade Cobalt and Delkin Black, respectively), but the ProGrade Gold still has a minimum write speed of 1300 MB/sec that should be suitable for all types of video recording on the Z8 and Z9. The Delkin Power (green) is not the latest G4 version so that it has no minimum sustained write speed specified; please keep that in mind. ProGrade Gold: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1701394-REG/prograde_digital_pgcfx2tbasbh_2tb_cfexpress_2_0_type.html Delkin Power, old version: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1570534-REG/delkin_devices_dcfx1_2tb_2tb_cfexpress_power_memory.html These are still CFexpress 2.0 Type B cards, and the new 4.0 cards are already available at a higher cost. As far as I know, no current cameras take take advantage of the CFexpress 4.0 speed yet, but I assume such cameras will soon be announced, perhaps at the CES in early January.
  13. Sunrise at the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge on Christmas day.

  15. There is no color (other than black and white 🙂) and no picture other than the leaves? That can be challenging.
  16. That roll of Kodachrome probably has long expired. There is no longer any lab that can process it anyway. But you can buy some new film to try the Nikon F out.
  17. Unfortunately, I have never been to Turkey and cannot answer your question. On photo.net, there is a Travel Forum, which may be better for this type of questions. However, it looks like there isn't much recent traffic over there, not that we are all that busy either. Hopefully someone here can help you, and you may want to try some other forums.
  18. Nikon Z6ii with 24-70mm/f2.8 S lens @ f6.3, 1/30 sec and ISO 6400
  19. red-legged honeycreeper (Cyanerpes cyaneus), on the Caribbean side tropical lowlands of Costa Rica
  20. I suppose those are now electronic candles, no fire hazard.
  21. Everything looks better after my retouch. 😄
