How to price these metal prints (a little different)
rmuckey replied to albie_dib's topic in Beginner Questions

Just an after thought, with your seascape photos , you might drill appropriate sized holes thru the metal print and wood background and use manila rope knots that are glued in place and then cut flush in the back after drying to keep with the "nautical" look??
-
How to price these metal prints (a little different)
rmuckey replied to albie_dib's topic in Beginner Questions

As submitted, I'd imagine, this sale would be more or less limited to a garage or antique car buff and certainly not in the $200 range in this area(Southern Tier of NY) unless done by a "famous" photographer.
Not sure of your background in woodworking, but the presentation with the use of what appears to be common phillips head screws used to mount the metal photo(even black drywall screws might look better) on 3 pieces of slightly "aged" roughcut lumber is rather limiting. Suggest a visit to the fastener section at local hardware store and check out other styles (personally feel a brass 2 piece screw/ insert or an "antique" cut nail would look better with the rustic look).
No claims of being a interior decorator but, I'd also consider choice of the wood (light or dark)and/or prep(some nice grained wood, lightly sanded to bring out the grain and of varying finishes etc.) so as to be more appropriate for various photos and markets.
If going after the $200 price range, perhaps teaming up with a local woodworker for the framing while you concentrate on the photos?.
-

Back in Nov. on a little farm pond(now covered with ice), I found these mallards sitting and preening about 100 yrds. across an open field so settled for cropping and more of a "reflections shot" than of "birds" in post.

Request for larger than 700 pixel wide images in forums
rmuckey replied to Mark Keefer's topic in PhotoNet Site Help

An after thought (AKA-brain fart):
After having noticed many "non member's" submissions( perhaps due to having several accounts?) to different forums as well as the "critique forum" (several identified with "frequent poster" and POW icons) perhaps PN might, as an incentive to be a supporting member, increase maximum submission size in forums(to say 1000px) on the long side for "dues paying" members only?
I understand PN might be liberal in submissions by "non-members" and even awarding POW based on quality only, in hopes of attracting new members but as it is now,I feel there is little such incentive to be a "paying member" - other than increased portfolio size and fewer advertisements....
Bob
-

I too, would like to see a larger maximum for photos submitted to different forums thus saving one more step in processing. As it is now, I reduce and convert RAW photos to 1000px on the long side for e-mailing, in LR or DPP, for additions to "my portfolio" - 1500px.
Should I wish to participate in say, MIN or the Canon Thurs. forums I have to further downsize to 700px and deal with the loss of IQ and adjust accordingly. Should I choose to do so, this means I may have the Raw file, full size JPEG, and 1500px, 1000px and 700px JPEGs on my hard drive, so 1 more step - go back and delete, after submission, to save space.
RE: PN restraints due to data limits on mobile devices, seems to me(an admitted "dinosaur") that most photo submissions would be thru PCs or laptops while casual review or "keeping up" would be on mobile devices. Guess bit boils down to wither PN wishes to be a "social media" site or one"For Photographers By Photographers".
Bob
-

Originally went over there with camera in hand to capture a small flock(family group?) that were feeding while passing thru. They fed for an hour or so and left as the shadows encroached.
