I like this picture. It stood out, and has an interesting dynamic. The girl's expression is terrific.

Coincindentally, I think you are the same person who asked about E6 processing in Rochester, who I gave some recommendations to. Nice to see someone doing such good work here. Let me know if you need any other local sources or info.

I'm always a sucker for dog pictures, and this is a nice one. I disagree with Phil that it needs fill flash; I think the natural lighting of this picture is it's best attribute. Fill flash would ruin it, IMO.

I once read that when you photograph pets, you should try to do so with their collars off. This seems like a perfect example of a collar being really distracting. You might also experiment with different framing and cropping. Overall, a nice picture, though.

Other photographers who constantly submit shore or forest pictures could learn a lot from the lighting and composition here. It looks great to me. What could you do better? Maybe adding a person or something in the foreground might be an interesting experiment, but it also might not. In other words, you could try something different, but it wouldn't necessarily be better.

I don't ever think waiting for and capturing very special light, which you've done, is "cliche".

I think the cropping is just about right. I would have cropped tighter horizontally, too. (Just past her fingertips.)

I love this type of shot. The colors and range of values are great. Unfortunately, I feel the overall shape and design of the buildings is kind of boring, and doesn't add anything. Keep working on this style; you'll get some great pictures.

  1. It doesn't really do much of anything for me. After all the previous positive responses, though, it obviously doesn't matter if some people don't like it. Enough do. Just goes to show you- different strokes. I remember attending a judging and exhibition where one photographer's set of photographs on display just embarrassed me, I felt they were so bad. (They ended up winning first place, of course). Keep shooting. A lot of people like your work.

I'm really sick of looking at flower pictures here, but this one is really special. The lighting and composition are great. I just hope you don't kick yourself down the road for not putting it on film, in case you want to make a decent size print with all the detail and texture this subject has.

This is a very good picture; she's not too posed looking, and looks like she has other thoughts going on besides getting her picture taken. I'm not sure I like the faux sepia, though. It's not an antique photo, doesn't look like one, so why try?

I'm trying to like this shot because the shadows are strong and the texture is interesting, but it just doesn't have a strong enough subject, I think.

  2. I like this picture. Most of this sort of abstract/closeup/rusty chunk of metal stuff posted here doesn't do much for me, but this caught my eye. The lighting, color, and texture are great, as is the composition, which gives this thing sort of an organic look.

Wow. The lighting is very special, and the composition interesting. I'm examining this picture to try to figure out what it is that makes it so different and appealing.

  3. I'm starting to look forward to seeing your pictures here because you have a very clever eye for graphic design elements. Your pictures show a distinctive, almost signature style, which is every photographer's dream achievement. This one has some neat things going on. Unfortunately, I don't think there's enough of a strong subject, other than the central structure. The lighting is pretty dull, too. If this was taken with early morning or late afternoon sun, and if there was, say, a person in an interesting position, it would liven it up for me a lot.

Keep working on these photographs and posting them. You have some real talent.
