Canon Elan 7e, EF 24mm f/2.8 lens, f/22 hyperfocal, circular polarizer, Bogen 3205 tripod. This is the shot I came here for; the famous Chapel Rock shot from Chapel Beach. This was shot about 10 minutes before sunset. Already exhausted from a whole day of hiking and shooting, we still had a 4.3 mile hike ahead of us (yes, in total darkness)! But I got the shot!Uploaded: Aug 08, 2001.

I was losing light very quickly and I couldn't find much to make the

composition more interesting. I think I am beginning to emulate the

shots that I am used to seeing in all these nature photography books.

Not that there is anything wrong with them, just nothing new. Any

suggestion on how to make this shot more interesting / creative would

be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I love this shot, this kind of thing is what makes me cringe at the fact that I don't have a wider angle lens than 35mm. :-/ If I ever get there, I'd probably try a super-wide angle shot (bordering on the fisheye effect even) to soak in the entirety of the surroundings. You can't ask for better light, and the polarizer again proves to be an asset for nature photography.

I think you ought to get a large format camera.I am not a l.f. snob and wouldn't know how to use one if i had one,but your eye for composition and color are(to me)so extraordinary that you(and your photography)deserve every bit of detail and control available

Other photographers who constantly submit shore or forest pictures could learn a lot from the lighting and composition here. It looks great to me. What could you do better? Maybe adding a person or something in the foreground might be an interesting experiment, but it also might not. In other words, you could try something different, but it wouldn't necessarily be better.

I don't ever think waiting for and capturing very special light, which you've done, is "cliche".

I like this the best out of everything I have seen.

I really love that *dreamy* angelhair water you get from longer shutter speeds.

The color balance is quite nice and the photo has a great sense of movement.

I don't know how to say it in just a few words; but the interest here for me is the rocky shore where the waves are climbing, seems to be the same elevation as the part of the shore with trees, etc.

This makes for a very interesting effect, as if the water were climbing out of the water, onto the shore!

A very unusual effect; and it makes this particular shot quite interesting. It's altogether such a beautiful scene, that I wouldn't worry unduly that it has been "done before." Virtually every shot you can get of scenery outdoors fits into that category. Shoot just for the beauty of the scene, as you perceive it; and let the devil take the hindmost. A very beautiful scene, I'd like to visit someday!
