  1. See earlier. I bought one from Aden. Not what is listed on their site because the site is not up to date. They had a silver kit left which is what I bought.
  2. Appreciate the thought. And I may well start out that way. I do know however that I really enjoy being able to figure out exactly where I was after I come back from a trip. I'll click the link in Capture One and get ported directly to the Google map so I can add the right piece of metadata to the picture. But I agree the thing looks very slick. Can't wait to get my hands on it now...
  3. Does anyone use a Dawn di-GPS PS10-M with the Nikon Df? I can find pictures with some of the other cameras it fits on but I'm curious if it interferes much as it sits alongside the left of the camera. It seems an awkward spot? Any feedback? Likes and dislikes? Cheers, Kevin
  4. Good to know. For all the lenses I own, I don't have an AF 50 mm of any kind anymore. So it's a handy addition. For the rest, it's the 40 mm f2 Voigtlander and the 50 Zeiss in that range. I'm quite looking forward to this camera. If only I could attach the Di-GPS somehow but I've resolved to have to work without it on that machine. The low light capabilities and the smaller file sizes will be nice as well. My D700 had quite a different flair to the pictures versus the D850 and the few pics I took with a Df many moons ago were very much to my liking.
  5. Well, the problem is solved. I could have sworn someone from this forum pinged me with the idea to check Aden Camera in Toronto (but I don't see the post anymore?). A quick check on their website showed they still had black and silver ones. A phone call however had it down to one silver kit (with the 50 mm lens). So the kit is on its way to me. Cheaper by a good chunk than B&H and no shipping or border issues. Awaiting new toys ... :)
  6. Thanks for all the feedback guys. I may yet pull the trigger on a new one.. I need to figure out how I get it from the US to Canada as I can't access my mailbox in WA these days since the border is closed.
  7. Indeed, but no shipping to Canada.. I may have to get creative and have one of my friends ship it
  8. I am trying to find a new Df, maybe from Japan. There are a few Df options that claim to be new but the prices vary wildly. Is eBay a safe bet from Japan? Am I under the illusion that the Japanese are a bit more honest in dealing this way? The two things I bought from eBay years ago (from the US) were both sub-par from promised. The other week there was a screaming deal on a near-new Df in my locale and I hesitated just a tad too long. It only had 4500 exposures and looked brand new. Or maybe you have a near-new Df on the shelf collecting dust?
  9. Hmmm... I am thinking aloud here, but have you tried a different battery? It could be electrically related, inconsistent power etc.

  14. The prices for Nikon equipment have been lower in Canada for the last few years, lower even than B&H. In Ontario you can get the D850 for about $2300 USD at the moment. A quick drive over the border from the US is out of the question of course these days. You can buy it in Alberta for $2300 USD without sales tax. Nikon D850
  15. Egad! Missed the most obvious place to look :-) Thanks!
  16. In short, since the D850 wifi upgrade last year, qDslrDashboard and a few others are far superior to yank your photos off the camera without a cable. This works on Android and iOs. I am looking for something similar that can run on a PC but have not found anything. I can connect the wifi provided by the D850 to the computer but lack something to "talk" to the SD card inside the camera. Anyone played with any available options? Thanks, Kevin
  17. Damn .... this has "group buy" written all over it. Maybe if 10 people are willing to put down $2,000 each for the pre-order it would get some attention in Japan? A Df-M with a B&W sensor in it like the D850 .... sweetness that would be.
  18. I looked around a bit online for that rumored Df M mentioned earlier by Brian but did not find anything.
  19. So where do we start lobbying Nikon to bring out a Df Mono? I think that would be an amazing addition for the f mount cameras. I'd happily put big cash down for that as a pre-order.
  20. Wow .. the feedback and quality on this topic are amazing. I think I am cured of my lust for a D850M. But if Nikon were to do a Df-M..... that would be a thing I'd go for.
  21. Peace, my friends :) It was a mere figment of my imagination that I would pursue this with vigor. Although, I am a terrible pixel peeper and the moment I used Capture One, I knew photography would never be the same (bu bye Adobe ACR and Lightroom)). Rodeo Joe showed this here as well. Still, the Max Max conversion would provide more resolution versus stock, hence the request from an Australian observatory group to have a D850 converted, that is what got Max Max to create the first D850M. I'll do a bit more reading but sadly the authority who has done the most work on this is DigiLloyd and that site is paywalled. The curiosity continues, with the next step being what an actual RAW(NEF) file looks like as it seems we all get fooled, even with Irfanview but maybe not by what RawTherapee shows. More pixels and resolution, please. I may pursue the Max Max thing .. I'll keep you posted.
  22. That whole website is full of camera goodies I've never seen anywhere else... time to sit down with a mug of coffee and do some reading. Still, that D850M is stuck in my brain ....
  23. Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had experience with a XNiteNikonD850M-FS: Nikon D850 Monochrome or an XNiteNikonD850M: Nikon D850 Monochrome per chance. I am extremely intrigued as I got the tinker with an M10 Leica the other day and I really like the B&W thing. I know I can shoot B&W with a standard D850 but with a bunch of the unnecessary stuff removed from the sensor it gets quite a bit better. They are not cheap. It's a dream at this point (but sadly, that can escalate quickly...) so I'm looking for someone who's actually used one. Cheers, Kevin
  24. If you have no silica handy, stick the lens, extended, in an old pair of socks and stick it in a Tupperware container surrounded by dry rice. Even better. All good in the morning and the rice will be fine :-)
  25. Well, things have moved along and the Voigtlander has been used in the first few test shots. I must say I am quite impressed. It's easier to focus than my Zeiss Milvus 50 mm; the focus ring is way smoother and easier to work with the metal profile. The background separation is amazing and it's creamy smooth. Attached is a shot. f2, 1/200s, ISO 64. I did nothing but stick it in Capture One and crop it to 3x4. The second mannequin is about 20 cm behind the head. It's not as small as I'd envisioned but that's fine. Still a substantially smaller lens than I've had before. Compared to the 35 1.8 G in this shot. Thanks for all your input everyone!
