3.
hello
We ordered a B & W NC filter for the lens, in a 77mm size--it does not fit (seems a wee bit too large).
Any idea on the correct filter size for the lens?
thank you
Dean Taylor

the CSM 21.1 option...

for goodness' sake, what a neat thing--we just saved many, many unintentional
'captures' (learning all the time)...

thanks to the three of you this early Wednesday morning...

Best,

Dean

    F100...

hello

A student asks about the metering system activated when pressing the shutter
release half way--and specifically, unintentionally catching the subtle point
beyond metering, i.e., to release.

This common feature was not much of an issue when using the DSLR--i.e., press it too
far while composing: simply 'delete' the image...

With 35mm film (here, with the F100) we would ask if there is a method
of activating the meter without the risk of losing film--i.e., holding off on
the capture until the composing/metering is complete...

If, in fact, there is no 'fail safe,' perhaps it's simply more finesse...

thank you...

  6.
"If the price is right, I would get this lens. There is nothing mediocre about it."

Thank you, Wouter, and everyone who stayed with the topic: the seller is asking $115
(not to be too precise about it...).

At any rate--and, since beginning the thread, doing research, etc.--I happened
upon Matthew Durr's fine website and, specifically, this lens (I'm going to have to save my pennies):

http://matthewdurrphotography.com/2012/05/24/lens-review-nikon-105mm-f1-8-ai-s/

At probably three times the price, it would seem they cannot be considered in the same breath.

  7.
"...some P lenses, very late a black ones, were also multicoated ..."
for a beginner, then, how to detect the fact of multi-coating...?

  8.
it's labeled 'Nikkor-P' with a serial #277155...better to let it ride, as has been pointed out...

Best,

Dean

  9.
"It will only have single coated optics, and IME it's only an average performing lens."

thanks for the input, Rodeo Joe and all who weighed in...

Best,

Dean

  13.
hello

The owner of the lens indicates that an adaptor is needed for mounting this lens...in good condition, what is a fair price? what type of adaptor is called for?

thank you

  14.
Photographer Andrew Jamieson was recently asked to give a presentation at work on his medium format film photography process. Instead of sharing a slideshow, Jamieson filmed this beautiful 4-minute video that covers how he loads Tri-X film into his Hasselblad, meters and shoots his photos, develops his film, scans it into a computer, and post-processes the images in Photoshop.
“I develop my own film, I do all my own retouching and I shoot with a range of digital SLRs, 35mm and medium format cameras,” Jamieson writes. “I’ve been working on a personal project over the last year which looks at capturing Falkirk’s industrial past. This video shows a part of my process.”

https://youtu.be/XMlg6-wXCgw

  16.
thanks, Charles...

Someone had pointed out that one might connect an electronic flash to the Graphex bi-post--we
have a Yongnuo for the Nikon D7000 we'd like to connect to the Speed Graphic...any
ideas on the hook-up are gratefully received...

Best,

Dean

Attempting to set it, but would ask
if you've used it, before we set it incorrectly (read: break it)...

The red adjustment lever can be reset if we lift it, and the dial will wind in a CW fashion...the plunger
can be pressed and latched--it strikes the cable release button...there is another latch (shaped
like a 'minute hand' on a clock--unknown function...

thanks for clarifying...

Dean

  18.

Are you able to identify the Graphex shutter model pictured here?

I had concluded that it was the Graphex #1, but someone mentioned that for the lens
on the Speed Graphic here (f/4.7, 135mm), it is more likely a #2 or #3...to wit:

(BTW, for the record, that 135 lens is usually installed in a Graphex no. 2 or 3 shutter;
the no. 1 is the smallest, used for the 68 and 101 Optars, among others...).

Thank you

Dean

  20.
hello

Sincere thanks to one and all for weighing in!

Someone at another forum made mention of the expiry/emulsion data listed on the box. B&H, to their credit,
added a label to the canister with both the emulsion (141-403) as well as the expiry (9/2016).

By the way, how ought an earnest student of film interpret the emulsion data provided?

Best,

Dean

  21.
hello

A beginner asks about a shutter cable release--are they standard size threads, or specific
to the shutter?

The right-side 'body release' on the 4x5 Pacemaker Speed Graphic calls for a heavy duty cable (versus the
'lighter touch' needed at the Copal 1 release?)...

B&H lists several:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?&N=4077634555+4095985253&cm_sp=Search-_-RemoteShutterRelease-_-ThreadedCableRelease_BI12536

thank you

Dean Taylor
