3.
Scott wrote, "most people don't print their digital pictures anymore, but keep them on their Facebook, etc".
There will always be a few remnants that would develop film as there are users and you just have to find them or process your own. On my area, they send the film somewhere to be processed and scanned to a cd on their shop but they are closing down too. Nobody is interested in printing digital pictures. Usually the bulk of printing jobs would have been Christmas season and graduations, but now it never came, but it's all in Facebook, etc...............The store photographer was in high heaven when digital cams came out, now he wished it never came as he is losing his job on the photo business he had for 50 years.

 4.
"That should not be a surprise today"

It could have been worst, I guess that's how it goes when we don't process our own film/negatives. Very few people would care, learn to understand and take all the necessary precautions cleanly/correctly in processing. I saw my own roll of negative, touching the floor when put on a Noritsu for scanning.................................

 6.
Those are dust or dirt on the negatives, it could have come from where it was processed? If your scanner is clean, then it could be dust on their work area?

Even on a Noritsu, a clean negative could have all those spots when scanned to a Cd, due to dust on the machine where you enter the negatives, aside from dirt in the scanner? I had films ruined due to processing errors, chemicals, dust, before they are scanned for more dust and spots to a cd?
