Memories of Friday before Sunday's snowstorm. The reds were enhanced by smoke from burning brush piles from land clearing.

This Southern Lapwing was very curious and followed us on our walk along the beach this morning here in Punta Colorada, Uruguay. It was probably wondering if we flew here too. Yup.

This past weekend was 'Village Noël' here. The downtown was set up with vendor kiosks like a European Xmas market. There was lots of entertainment, food, etc. As well, folks were in costume according to the 'New France' theme. This fits well with the 400th anniversary of the francophone presence in Ontario.

All shots taken with a D7100, 18-200mm and an SB600w/Gary Fong Lightsphere

Mary, they look like they are from the genus Populus to me (poplars) rather than birches Betulaceae.
-

This one goes all the way back to ....yesterday. We have had a couple of very foggy mornings. I saw the sun peaking under the fog in this scene taken en route to a neighbouring town in Quebec.

This goes back to 2008. My dad lived 550km away from us. We'd talk on Skype each Sunday. During our conversation, I'd put the computer on the floor so he could talk to Wynnie. My dad would talk and make barking noises, and Wynnie would 'boof' back in response. It would go on for several minutes. Here I think she was telling Papa about what she saw in the Canadian Tire Catalogue. He was 87 at the time and she 9. Neither is with us any more but, thanks to the D80, I have this image to take me back.

This is a very small portion of the murder of crows that has been gracing our area over the past couple of weeks. Each morning just after dawn, a constant stream of crows some 30-40 abreast heads northward. This parade lasts about 10-15minutes so I estimate the size of the murder to be in the thousands. Then, just before dusk, they head back south to roost for the night. Occasionally, they will land on the tall ash trees in the back yard. Our corgis, Harry and Hattie, hate crows and they bark and leap at them even if the crows are 20m above in the trees. Seems to work, though, because the crows quickly move on. Soon, the daily streaming will come to an abrupt end when the crows migrate south.
I could only fit 14 crows in this frame. I would like to capture more of the murder; but, I haven't figure out how. Maybe I should ask a detective ;-}.
