Comment;
photography has a relationship with many different studies, learning how to use a camera is one, learning how to direct people, understanding posing techniques and lighting, might be your most valuable, when doing portrait work. presentation for subject dynamics can make a break a great image.
Critique;
getting down with your camera angle is a plus, you nailed the eye contact on both, my pick would be that they are sitting on the ground and that makes them look bigger than what they might want to see, the presentation for crop, looks a little heavy to the left side.
I see that your focal length was 18mm, that adds more size to your subjects, that wide angle mode works well if you want to make something appear larger.
crop for input, good luck, and critique others work, it will force you to get better.

I think the subject of photographing someone who is taking a picture with a cell phone, has become the most common image in the digital age.
It is not grabbing the viewer attention when you see one after the other, they all start to look the same.
To bad you did not focus on what she was photographing, the expression on the babies face, who is looking right at you, looks like it would be more interesting.

nice and soft with good skin tone, but, I feel the crop is a little off, it is said never crop at a joint, if you go just a little above her knee, you will notice the different dynamic, you will see a cleaner subject focus and composition. IMO

A photograph is a message to ones own mind, and attempting to convey a subject, that elevates the viewer to some heightened response.
Do you know where I am going with this message? If not, I have done the same thing you did, I used words, you did it with a photograph.
Hope this helps you to create content, and subject composition. -

Do you have one with a person standing next to this for scale, not getting the full kick of size without a reference.
