I've seen it suggested to immerse a waterlogged camera in alcohol to displace the water and aid the drying process, but I don't know if that makes things better or worse.

Great Idea Bob! Immerse it in an18 yr Scotch to ease its pain… always makes things better, well, for me anyways ;)

Good luck Charles.

 2.
Hi Dennis, welcome to PN. Are you shooting ETTL or manual strobe settings? and with what trigger setup? You may have already looked into this but being the first time you've shot the 5D in the studio, I would have a quick peek at the menu sub-settings to confirm there is no weird ETTL/Flash/sync compensations which have been goofed with. Slim I know but there is a chance!

 3.
Ron, as a PN rule we are not allowed to post any photo we did not take ourself. Expect the moderators to remove it.

As far as editing the image, I am of the practice of only editing my own work although I know a few retouchers who do it for their business. Chances are unless a museum or other organization wants to change it for a particular reason it should stay as the photographer intended (not to mention copyright restricts us playing with it in the first place)

Regards, James

Moderator: James is correct. The image has been removed and a link substituted. Please do not post photos that you did not take.

 4.
Phyliss, since you are in contact with the photographer anyways (buying another photo), discuss the usage with him/her and come to a mutually acceptable agreement They may be fine with giving you permission for a very reasonable price (or even for free in some cases) however usage rights are usually purchased and, as Jeff states, can never be assumed.

but the new version 11 claims to do quite a bit more than what i need.

...right now. Still a great program and runs well on the macs. You get those new features and just maybe you start to play with them and experiment and the next thing you know, it was a great investment.

Either way, have fun with the new machine.
Regards, James.

 6.
No problem Sarah, I would hope someone would do the same for me. All else aside, the site looks nice and flows well. I would recommend having an objective look through your galleries some day as some seem bloated to me. Ask yourself which ones are your absolute best and are what you want to represent your style. 90+ photos in weddings for example is not as important as say 20-30 images that really knock peoples socks off.

My two cents.
Best luck, James.

 7.
I have had one case where my camera (not a 1DX though) is still clearing the buffer after a long continuous burst and refused to review an image for a few seconds. That said, I understand a 1Dx buffer size is quite vast so you would have to be doing quite the shooting to replicate that problem.

Out of curiosity, I understood the 1Dx has the integrated grip as part of the body, could you clarify your statement? "is my Canon hand grip edge sliding over a button" If you are referencing a hand strap then that could also be a possibility.
Regards, James.

 8.
Denise, I would tend to recommend Mikes second post and use the center AF point to lock focus on the near eye, then re-compose to your desired framing. Ensure your AF is also on Single Shot so the camera doesn't try to refocus as you re-compose. This camera and lens camera will do a very good job for you, just keep up the practice.

EXIF says f2.2 for those wondering.

 9.
Enlighten me, (as I'm not familiar with Sony cameras or the term focus peaking) but would this be like using the live view mode and zooming using the 5x or 10x magnification option on my 40D? I will use this time to time for critical manual focus on a given subject.

Regards, James.

 10.
Good day, I was wondering (completely out of my own curiosity) just how PNet tracks traffic and upload volume? I imagine something in the ways of google analytics or equivalent. Could you possibly share some numbers such as 'Photos in DB', 'volume of server' or 'uploads per minute/day' if thats okay and doesn't give away some trade secrets? I'm just getting into how websites are run and think it may be interesting (maybe even to others). Seems like a big job.

By no means is this something to answer if its going to take time away from important matters, but thanks for the great job over the years either way.

Regards, James.

 11.
I have been to both (and lived on Vancouver Island for 3 years) and honestly Zvia, you can't go wrong with either, although I'm a bit bias for the west coast. Each province has a great tourism website and you could also look here - www.vancouverislandoutdoor.com, or here - www.novascotia.com.

Personally, nothing beats the wildlife and scenery (with mountains!) that they have on Vancouver Island. I enjoy kayaking and that is very popular there as well. You mentioned whale watching, I would just confirm the migration dates of each area but it can be a great experience.

Tough choice, but I think you'll have fun either way.
Regards, James.

With the same camera or the other 40D?

Different card, different camera Ann. I did check the compatibility prior to purchase and saw no warnings that there would be a problem (and it has been my go-to brand for the bulk of my cards over the last 3 years). The 400x is far from the cutting edge in UDMA so I'm not demanding much from it.

just as likely to fail in 1 year as it is to last 10

Wow. Pinpoint reliability ;)

 13.
The card was last formatted last week, normal conditions, no problems and I had shot with it since as I mentioned. I have two 40D's and so far (knock on wood) there has been no problem 'waking' them up. Also Ann, the last firmware update for the 40D was some time last year or so, ergo it is supposed to be good.

I agree, CF cards should be good for year upon year of faithful service however the key word to that is should. My experience has been similar to Ricks wherein I had one card glitch within 6 months.
