Eric, thanks for the tip. I haven't used it like that and it sounds simple enough to make work.

AI Focus on the 40D is supposed to identify target movement and switch between AI Servo and One shot on its own (according to the manual). Would this even be effective/needed with an IS lens? (again, not mentioned in the manual)

I am delving further into my "non-program" experience with my Canon 40D. What is the general practice for choosing AF modes (One Shot, AI Focus, AI Servo)? I now shoot about 50/50 manual focus to auto focus but am curious about this and how it affects my shots. I am leaning towards just leaving it in AI Focus and letting the camera adapt for itself according to the subject motion. Right approach or doesn't matter? Any thoughts?
(In my own "tests" I haven't noted any differences, but I'm just learning)

Filter holders vice threaded filters

Looking for your thoughts on using filter holders instead of purchasing common screw on filters. After looking at some of the costs for decent 67mm filters (and other sizes for each specific lens -$$$), my uncle mentioned that universal drop in filter holders used to be popular and could be used for more than one size lens. Are they widely used at all - anyone with experience/knowledge they can share? Wouldn't these give you more filter options for the money?
I did a quick search and found one current manufacturer (Calumet/Lee) but didn't find any reference to use with the Canon EOS system. (I'll try anad include a picture)
