I agree 100%. I also think the grain works well for this photo, and after looking at it for a while I find the lower-left to upper-right diagonal composition to be pleasing for this shot, enhanced by the bold striped shirts. Very nice sports photo that has an ambiance.
-
What's your opinion on this -- does the composition need tightened?
-
Love the extreme closeup, and the reflections off the eyes are super. Great job!

Thanks for your comments. Here's another shot in the same location showing both columns (although this shot was 35mm and not medium format):

It's not shown in the details, but I was wondering if this was shot with slide or print film? I like the concept, but would like to see a little more saturation or contrast between the hazy white background and the blue, resulting in three "layers" of the image. Enough nit picking.
Congrats on POW!

This image is one of my favorites, and has been well received by
viewers. Some pros on another site prefer the image in more of a
landscape format, rather than square. Do the square dimensions (this
was shot square to begin with) enhance or detract? If you want to
crop this image, feel free to play with it and post it in the
response.

Slightly cropped version of the original based on some feedback from
a few experienced eyes. Any comments and criticism welcome. Thanks.

This photo was taken at mid-day on D St. NW between 6th and 7th in downtown DC, just a couple of blocks north of Constitution Ave. I'm always trolling for anything interesting, and this I was lucky to spot this truck. It was pretty hard to ignore the beautiful chrome grill.

One of the most appealing B&W photos I've seen in a long time. Would love to see a huge print.

This is the second photo in a series in the portico of the National
Arhives, a great place to observe people. The area can be somber or
very light, depending on the time and use of filters (medium orange
here). What could be improved in terms of perspective - higher,
lower, closer? Thanks.
-
I like it, but I like the bottom two photos a lot better than the top two. The bottom poses seem a lot more dynamic for my eye.

Great face portrait, with personality! Do you have any exposures that show more smoke, perhaps blocking a little face?
-
I agree with Adam -- light that cigar and capture the smoke. I also like an occasional quality cigar, and the first things I think of are the smoke and the aroma. I would like to see a lower angle up closer, but that's just me. Makes me want a cigar!

I think if you look at this photo for a more than a few seconds you will see much more than has been stated, both in terms of content and composition. To me, the upper right portion looks like a human arm clutching the metal shaft -- this human/machine dimension makes it really work for me. Don't know if that was intended, but that's the first theme that I saw.
Congrats on POW!

I think this is a very nice photo -- unique angle and closeup. Did you tinit this digitally or did you have it done during processing?

Like Kyle, my interpretation of this photo is also mental and spiritual: I think the photo provides a wonderful juxtapositon of the universe "out there" and we humans here on earth.
Phenomena such as light, wind, movement through time, great expanses, etc. all come together here.
Great photo Daniel -- thanks for educating amatuers like myself.

My young son loves heliocpters, and we found your photo -- thanks for posting a great heli pic.

I like the image, but it seems too bright. Does the original look like this?

As a fellow TLR user, we have to keep going!

Great light and contrasts - very nice.

As a fellow Mamiya TLR user, it's great to see some nice b&w street photos! Please add some more.

Love the composition and facial expressions. Yes, great photos can be made without ever being near a computer.
-
I think this is well composed and invites the viewer into the photo. I'd love to see a larger scan too.
