It's certainly a unique composition, and the lines are visually striking. But, I keep wanting to see the people with a little more clarity or intimacy -- as it is now they seem so far away that the shadows thrown are easily ignored in the image.

I think architectural images are stronger that show how people interact with the architecture in question, which you have done. My overall interpretation I make of this image is that the architecture is huge, people are small, and the design reinforces the linearity/redundancy of many of our human-made landscapes.

Just shot some water flowers last Saturday with a Rolleiflex T --

this is only a small portion of the full slide (deasturated). Any

comments or tips appreciated. Scanned with inexpensive Canon flatbed.

Candid portrait of my son taken with Minolta Autocord in late

evening. Does the child's expression do enough to make the image

    interesting? Any feedback appreciated.

Great to see an image like this -- almost "classic" in motion-freeze and simplicity. The position of the diver in mid-air complements a feeling of weightlessness and flight.

The image could probably benefit from some darkroom fine tuning, but it is indeed an oustanding image. Would like to hear about how this image was made. Congrats on POW!

  1. I'm categorizing this shot as "street," but I did wait to get this

image. It's actually my son, and this is a ramp onto the beach from

the boardwalk. He ran up and down the ramp twice, and when I saw him

I thought it would make an interesting shot since his head is not

visible. I wasited for the "run" and got this shot. I kind of like

the visual anonymity of the subject. Any comments welcome.

  2. I think this image could be improved with some type of human activity showing, but I'm not sure what it would be.

I looked at your portfolio and it is really outstanding - you have a keen eye for detail and make interesting compositions that take time to explore. I also love B&W over everything else. You should get POW for "portfolio of the week." Glad to see your images!

Thanks for your comments and feedback. Jonathan, to answer your question, yes, the sand is being thrown in the air by the child. I agree with you 100% that had I got this about 1/100th of a second later, both the sand and the ball would be clearly airborne, and it would be more dynamic.

This image is from a recent trip to the Eastern Shore. I like the

composition and lighting, but how could it be better? This was a

quick shot handheld with a Leica P&S. Any comments welcome.

I just looked through your folder and I like your images a lot. You have a great eye for exploiting the characteristics of the plastic! Again, most people don't seem to "get it," or just don't want to think about seeing images that are more interesting from a $10 camera than from a $3,000 rig.

If you have a chance check out some of my folder with images made with a Diana clone:

Plastic camera images don't seem to get a lot of looks on Photo.net, so I appreciate seeing your Diana images. I like the composition and framing -- perfect for the look-away of the model.

I agree on the blur/motion: don't ride the fence. Either add a lot more motion, or make it sharp. This one is in the middle. Nice portrait though.
  3. Taken this Spring at the National Arboretum with a plastic medium

format Diana clone at sunset. These images are meant to be soft and

ambiguous - the lens is plastic. Any comments appreciated.

Image of my son playing in grass. Grey blotch at right is due to

light leak in plastic camera. Shot on expired Ektachrome.

    Beach Fun

B&W portrait of my son playing ball at Dewey Beach. Cloudy day,

handheld with AF Leica, a little d&b in PS to get the tones darker.

    Any comments appreciated.

  4. Spring image at the City Dock in Annapolis, MD taken with plastic

medium format camera (like Diana). Shot on expired Ektachrome E100S.

Any comments or critiques welcome --- thanks for looking.

  5. Windsor (Diana clone) image taken on expired Ektachrome. Plastic lens

camera shoots 5x5 - hard to estimate results. Any comments welcome

(not -- these images are not meant to be "sharp" like glass lens).
