1. Thank you Andrrew. I've saved these films for so long might as well save them a little longer and have the film holder checked. (want to get some NEW55 anyway) but as you said the chemicals are failing. Yes i leave the lever at L setting, and yes i'm the original owner and no i didn't store them in the fridge or freezer! Thank you again!
  2. Hello,

    I have here 3 sheetes of pola 55 PN 4x5 - had 10 - expired march 2001

after 7 tries and getting no image i thought, "of course they are expired!"

but then i thought, "maybe they are not getting exposed, when i pull the envelope

to expose the whole thing is coming up the holder."

so, could it be the film holder has a problem?

    is it really the films?

    help!

not gonna do anything for now.

    Thank you !!!

  3.
Ok, the neg was scanned on Nikon scanner V ED - settings: neg color - calibrated rgb
(sometime ago a friend of mine said that if you scan a b&w neg w/ these settings you get more detail!! it doesn't hurt!!)
after scanning I converted it to grayscale dot gain 20%.
I'm going to scann it again, resize, and save it as srgb IEC61966-2.1
will post the results.
take care guys!!

  4.
Hi Mike,
thanks again!
it's kodak tri-x - i'd have to scan other imagens to compare.
pixillation? really?
it was re-sized from the original scan 3733 x 5613 @ 4000 ppi to 762 x 1141 @ 96 ppi
I have a print 11x14 and it looks fine, beautiful!!
so i thought it had something to do with Color Profile!

  6.
Hello,
I've been scanning slides and B&W on my Nikon coolscan V ED.
I set unsharp mask:
Intensity - 50%
Halo Width - 3%
Threshold - O levels
Recently a friend of mine (photographer-owner of nikon scanner) saw some of my scannings and said they were 'too much unsharped'. what do you guys think? do you usually unsharp at the time of scanning or later on PS? how much?
Thank you!

  7.
"And as you see someone who put in balance 200 EUR difference when purchasing a body is not going for any pro glass but for the kit lens. In this situation the 200 Euro difference make even more sense."
You missed the point, Mihai. 200 euros or dollars isn't the issue here.
Thank you Pierre. I shoot a lot of film and love my lenses (have them for little over 25 years).
Thank you Eric. I've been focusing manually all my life, so I'm comfortable w/ this.
Nwxt week we'll be going to Germany, and then I decide. Thank you all.

  8.
Thank you, Shun Cheung, Peter Hamm, Richard Snow, Pierre Lachaine, Ariel S, Jim Jones, Mihai Ciuca.
I own Nikon F3 w/ MD4 and N-80 w/ MB-16 -Holga 120 and 4x5 in (Calumet)
Nikon lenses 80-200mm f4 - 24mm f2 and AF 35-70mm f2.8 D
I've contacted Nikon and yes I can use them w/ D3100 -
"How will you be using your photos." at least 11x14in.
"..higher megapixel count is more demanding on lenses, he means that if there are any small manufacturing defects or if the lens wasn't designed to be an absolute-great performer, you will notice the defects in your photos. This means that you have to be more careful which lenses you buy for your camera, as some of them may not perform well." I believe the Nikon lenses i lested above shouldn't be a problem!!! I'd buying the kit, camera plus lens 18-55mm VR.
Thank you again, Jorge Vasconcelos

  9.
Hello,
I'll be buying my 1st digital camera. was thinking about D3100 - 14.8 mega.
now there's a new camera D5100 - 16.2 mega.
is there a really big difference (noticeable) in image quality 14.8 to 16.2 mega??
(well, in euro is about 200,00.)
thank you all!
