Anura,  you are far too kind.  I just really enjoy dew drop and water drop shots.

In macro photography, the depth of field can be very small especially if you are shooting greater than 1:1.  In order to get more of the object in focus , focus stacking is used.    I am by no means good at this technique.  I am just starting to practice it.

What you do is focus on different parts of the image to get in in focus and then move the focus point to the next part .  You try and do this and keep your field of view the same.   One can take as many shots of the object as you need to get it all in focus.   There are programs that you can then run that will put all the images together , helicon focus, zerene stacker or you can do manually in photoshop.   I do it manually in photoshop most of the time.

Anytime you have any questions, just let me know. Will be glad to help

Here are a couple of sites that might help :

You have done an incredible job on this.  The lighting , the composition and the depth of field are wonderful and the bee in in flight !!!

A very difficult shot done wonderfully.

Very nice image, good depth of field.

The only thing that I might do would be to crop the top a bit so that the focus is on the center of the flower.  A bit of more diffused  flash might have reduced the shadow on the right side.

Hi Hans, the bag was about 8 inches above the needle.  I was just playing around with the needle and the drop to see what happens when the drop hits the needle tip.  Interesting enough , it does not splatter, but passes through the drop.

I just stuck the flower in a plant of bamboo to see if I could get the reflection.  I did not plan very well as it picked up the reflection of the bamboo and the stalks also.

A falling drop just as it is about to be pierced by the needle.

Very nice, sharp and wonderful use of light.   I would consider a tighter crop to remove some of the out of focus foreground as it distracts from the wonderful center of the flower.
