I think Charles is much too harsh: the light in the clouds is obviously the cener of attention here, and I find it seductively beautiful. Horizon is slightly tilted clockwise, but otherwise I like it.

  1. The thing I like most about this image is the relationship between the moonrise and the reflected sunset (just touching the dark horizon line) which is visible in the golden sphere where the base of the cross meets the tip of the dome. Hope you like it.

  2. from the perspective I'm guesing you shot this from the New Otani. Brings back some very fond memories.

I very much like the tonal range and contrast from left to right.

    Thanks for sharing this.

Holding the lens cap! You've trained your cat to be your photographic assistant. Bravo. (I'm lucky if I can get mine to hold still for a second and look at me). Nice cat portrait.

  3. I like it too. When I was a kid and my dad was a US officer stationed in Germany, my parents took me to see the Berlin wall. Ever since, I have always found that barbed wire (or now razor wire) evokes strong feelings for me.

Compositionaly, I like the tremendous DOF in your photo which gives the tunnel effect inside the wire (an unusual and somewhat scary perspective),but I also like juxtaposition of the wire with everyday objects like cars. It suggests to me that there is brutality around us every day which - except for photos like this - we might not even notice.

    Thanks,

  4. Conventional advice: A grad filter would help with the exposure. On the other hand, the foreground darkness turns the traffic trails into an abstract stipe which points toward and also kind of echoes the tones of the sky above the horizon. The composition strikes me as appropriate because it allows inclusion of the traffic trail as well as the gradations of colors in the sky. This shot appeals to me.
