I have a number of compositions....what do you think of this composition?
Bland? Nice? Somehow I like it.....the closer compositions do not have
the repeating detail of those wonderful dot patterns....I have another
composition that has the flowers bordering the left frame of the image and
a bit tighter....thoughts?
I thought perhaps that the flowers protruding from the right border may
benefit from getting taken out....but im not sure.....

Thank you! There are a few folks on here that I follow and who have some AMAZING mantis images....this one was in the wild...popped up as I was shooting at this nursery and boy was I excited - hope to catch some more of them in action this June again, but in some earlier morning light.
-
Thank you Alf
-
thanks richard....these are amazing subjects (the insect and the lilly)
I will be going back to shoot them more this June....only had one chance last year and it was a bit too late in the day.... -
What do you think of the widest version?
-
Going back through these and trying to correct under exposure...how
is this version...please compare to the other...unbelievable that I
looked at previous versions and did not just see them as muddled
and dark....
-
So Ive gone back to this series and tried to correct some under-
exposure...compare with other please and tell me what you think...
The body is a tad soft, but im not sure I will attempt to do anything
with that...
Thoughts?
-
...have not decided if it is a bit ho hum? On the other hand I like her
expression, and the lighting is decent...thoughts?
-
perhaps too busy? lovely scene though...

you photos always grab me...this is no exception......wonderful details....would love to see this as a larger print in "real life" ! :D
-
no doubt! If you see my mantis on lotus photo, you can see that I underexposed some of these images a tad and they are lacking a certain bit of punchiness....I need to get back to post and fix this series up a bit more....my monitor is always screwing me up....I never knew it until I started seeing the images on other monitors (that are also whack too no doubt)....new monitor is in the mail and calibration equipment :)
-
Darn it, you beat me to it...
And yeah, it looks tons better...and you were not even working on the RAW file (which I have :) )
Im off to edit and repost.....as a matter of fact, there are a couple versions of this same photo that I will tweak
I blame some of it on my crap monitor...I edit on it..then go to other computers and see that it is uber dark....my new NEC monitor is as of tonight on order :D -
thanks!
The more I look at it, the more I feel it is underexposed.... -

cool scene caught here. it comes off overall a bit flat for me...colors are muted. but the focus is excellent and the timing amazing....perhaps a bit of fiddling with post processing to brighten up the subjects a tad, and get the color to punch up just a tad? Take Care.

LOVELY...the lighting is wonderful - the tractor adds a dynamic element for me....and the dust adds to the photo as well.....would love to see this on a larger scale...could make the detail in the plowed areas even more visible and interesting I bet! I have done so little landscape photography so far in my humble photography beginnings, but seeing such wonderful shots gets me pumped up to try much more often :)

wonderful....love your background as well....interesting colors
my attempts at macro/closeup, im starting to notice my backgrounds are not well thought out always... -
My first ever attempt at photographing a peacock....how did I do...
I experimented with a number of compositions...
I ruined a bit the DOF on this....should have stopped down a bit more
as the bit more distant feathers softened a bit :( - but overall I think it
worked out pretty good for first attempts....any suggestions for
improvements in approach always appreciated...thanks

I think that is a fair point...
I think I could chop off some of the top of this image and improve it
