  1. I appreciate the offers. My wife and daughter will be living with my parents in Bellchase Louisiana, I will continue to live in my travel trailor in Alexandria (a 4.5 hour drive from my family) because I have a job there. No photo labs or stores withing a 2 hour drive. I have my 4x5 camera and Leica along with other gear but no means to process what I have been shooting.

If you have any gear I would be interested but I must purchase it! All I ask is that you hold on to it until I can pay for it. Email me off line. And again thanks to all for the emails and offers of help.

  2. Made it to our house in St. Bernard parish. there is 1.5-2 feet of

mud in my house, the ceiling has collapsed along with the

insulation and the attic contents. We were able to save my wifes

china and a few items from my duaghters room and a few peices of

crystal. My darkroom is no more the D2 is upside down in the muck

and the Omega B22 is corroded to a white powder. Could not find

anything becuase of the ceiling and insulation and mud. My little

Zorki collection was no where to be found. I did manage to find one

stainless dev. tank and some reels, and my 11x14 trays. Words can't

describe how it it was. The smell was aweful. There was a dead

nutria and two dead snakes in my house. No pictures that were left

survived, blank sheets of paper. I'll write more later, were late

to bring our pets to get shots.

  3. I lived in St bernard parish wich is still underwater. My house is

a total lose, water over the roof. My darkroom that took me years

to build is no more, but....

I am in Alexandria with the nicest people on earth. They have done

more for us than I could ever imagined. I made it out with some of

my cameras, Lighting equipment was in the darkroom so don't have

    that anymore.

I work for the state Charity hospital system and they are placing me

into the local hospital for some income.

We are living in a small camper with no seage or water but we are

safe and comfortable, There is home nearby where we shower and use

the restroom. Spend most days sitting outside with family and

freinds and playing with our dogs.

All of our memories are gone, my daughters pictures she drew us,

All of her school projects, the Doll house I made for her. Thats

whats the hardest, remembering everything I should have grabbed when

    I left there sunday morning.

Thanks to all who have sent clothes and food, It is getting to us,

My daughter now has clothes and I have clothes to start working

    again.

Thank you all for the help.

  4. My family and I are safe, we were evacuated Sunday just before the

storm hit. I am told that my area has 10 feet of water and only

roof tops are visible. Water still rising because of levee

breaches. Most of New Orleans and surrounding areas are under

water, Twin span reported to be "gone" as is the causeway but these

are unconfirmed. I am in Alexandria with family and comfortable, I

hope everyone else got out ok.

  5. Ryan I live in New Orleans (well technically on the outskirts) and I know of no one that rents equipment in or near the city. There is a public darkroom called the New Orleans Darkroom that you can use for a fee. There are a lot of galleries on Julia street. Anyone from New Orleans should know about the arts district. I can provide with some more info just email me if you have any more questions.

  6. I have the Nikon 28-105 3.5-4.5 but on a recent event I found

balancing ambient light and flash difficult because of its 4.5 max

aperature at the longer focal lengths. I had to use my 50mm F1.8 and

85 F1.8 at 2.8 to get the light correct. I do not like having to

switch lenses while covering an event. I am considering selling it

to buy a faster zoom, namely the Tamron or tokina.

Anyone use these lenses or can suggest an alternative. Wich is

better? I obviously cannot justify the Nikon 28-70mm F2.8 and the

the 35-70 F2.8 isn't wide enough for me.

  7. Thanks Oliver.

I have a few of the snow ball shop too, Its really started to decay over the past few years.

I love this area, Louisana coastal erosion and saltwater intrusion is acually changing the landscape from year to year. We are to receive about $540 million in federal aid over thhe next four years (less than half than whats needed) to stop coastal erosion. Its my hope that the rest of the money can be found or donated and save south Louisiana and not find its way in to the pockets of our public officials.

I always say that if it wasn't for the people, Louisiana would be a great place to live.

  8. I have used my Tach with 210mm lens for portraits with great results. Thats the longest lens I have, but a head a shoulders portraits were easy with this lens. I have also used my 150mm with 4x5 fp4 and FUJI NPS loaded in my Calumet C2 6x7 holder ( I like to use movements in my portraits to blur everything except the eyes)
  9. I use a five lens system

50mm F1.8 Low light and full length portraits

85 F1.8 Portraits to blurr the back ground, My favorite nikkor

28-105 Walking around general purpose lens, gets little use except for weddings and parties with a flash bracket doubles as a macro

18-35mm My landscape a documentary lens, Wide angle give a nice photo journalistic look.

80-200 F2.8, Portraits, extra reach when I can't frame the way I would like with the 85

I can cover almost any subject in 35mm with these lenses and all give great results, They say primes are best and I do agree but getting the shot is more important. I have seen shots I made with the 28-105 at 12x18 and they look great.

  10. I'm sick of the spyware, virus, malware etc. I am buying a new

system to replace my 8 year old dinosaur Celeron 400MHz Compaq. I am

    considering a mac but no one I know uses one.....Or a Dell 4700 w/

19" lcd 160gb hd and 1gig of ram. The dell is cheaper but the no

virus thing has me thinking mac. The mac is 1300 compared to about

    950 for the dell.

Any opinions on either mac or pc?

  11. I have been looking into getting a DSLR to accompany my f100 and

nikon lenses. I would really like the D2x but 5k is a bit steep for

me. I have held the D70 several times and I just can't get used to

that squinty little viewfinder and the lack of a vertical grip. No

one that I am aware of carries the Fuji cameras locally so I have

never seen one in person. Is the viewfinder on the S3 better (I mean

bigger) than that of the D70? How about image quality on the S3. I

would rarely go beyond 12x18 for portraits.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

  12. My computer is dying a slow death. Something has corrupted my

network files and I am unable to connect to the internet most times,

and considering it is 8 years old I am ready to "upgrade".

Problem is I don't know what to get or where to get it. I will

eventually buy a digital camera (likely an Fuji S3 or something of

that sort) so digital imaging and internet is all that I need it to

do. I don't plays games or edit video. Running internet explorer,

paying bills and photoshop is all that I do.

Everyone is suggesting Dell but when I compare Hard drive size,

processor, and memory the others are cheaper (HP, compaq, etc.) And

to confuse me more I purchased a computer shopper magazine wich

includes other direct vendors like ibuypower.com, abs, and

    cyberpower.

Can anyone help me spend my money so that I get the best system I can

    afford $700-$800 us dollars.

  13. I print my own B&W but have to send my color portraits out. I simply

am loosing patience with getting back poorly printed proofs. too

bright or too dark, pink skintones on one roll and yellow on

another, unsharp prints that have to be rescanned.

Now that everything is digitally scanned and printed might I do

better with e-6 films. picking those that I would like to have

prints and what sizes I would like. Sometime I might shoot 4 rolls

of 120 but make 10 8x10's of one negative.

...or recomend a lab to send my c41 work to (I live in New Orleans)?

  14. I am trying to decide wich portrait lens to add to my 500cm. I think

the 150mm lesnes would serve me well, I do a lot of small children. I

mostly work in B&W printing my own work myself on fiber.

    I can save a lot of money by purchasing a 150 C or even a 150 C T*

instead of a CF lens but I have a few concerns.

    1. Flare. I understand the C lenses are single coated and The C T*

lenses are multicoated, but I a curious to know how this works in

    real world sitiautions.

    2. Sharpness. Are the newer CF and later lenses too sharp for

    portraits?

    3. Price, As I have said the C lenses are cheaper but would saving a

little now cost me more in the future.

Any opinions would help me a greast deal. I was planning to buy a

lens today but I simply can't make up my mind.
