Istiklal is probably the most famous avenue in Istanbul. It is located in Peran, a well-known historic district inhabited from many Greeks and Italians until the beginning of the 20th century. Hundreds of luxury boutiques, music stores, art galleries, patisseries, restaurants, clubs, cafes, bookstores and libraries are situated in this busy area. Dozens of thousands of local citizens and tourists as well, are crossing through the pedestrian street every day. That evening, while I was slowly walking on my way back to Galata, I was thinking how alive, continuous and complicated is the modern rhythm in this wonderful old-style street, with influences and sounds from the East and the West. It is somewhat contradictory, as everything in Istanbul. I was really tired after more than 12 hours strolling around the neighborhoods of the old city. But the chance to depict in an image what you feel, must never be ignored. As I saw the decorative grating to fall down slowly, I turned on my camera quickly. It was the aspect of Istiklal I wanted to express, that specific moment. Always on the move, always vivid, even at the end of the night!

Located in the constellation Ursa Major, almost 12 million light years away from our Solar neighborhood, this famous pair of galaxies is a favorite observational and photographic target for professional and amateur astronomers as well. At the heart of M81 lies a supermassive black hole, while its gravitational companion M82 is almost five times more luminous than our Milky Way galaxy. I am really very glad with the final result and not without serious reasons. Firstly because, I re-discovered these 26 sub-exposures well after some years. Then because it was a really demanding job, as the sub-exposures were of poor quality, taken with my old Celestron ED80. But the result is finally acceptable, enough I think to share it here. Your comments and critique are as always welcomed.

This is a wonderful, an exceptionally beautiful image. The dramatic cloudy sky and the waves add further to the whole mood. The scene looks so familiar and so unreal at the same time. It would be a 7, if I had to vote it. It is perfectly suited for my PhotoNet all-time favorites! Best regards, Paschalis
