1.
I am trying to recover files from my memory card but am having trouble doing so. I am using Lightroom 3 and have the following issue. I formatted a memory card using a canon 5D mk ii camera but then by mistake, placed the card in a canon 5D. When I try to import the images into Lightroom, it shows the image file but states that no image preview is available. When I try to download the files anyway, they fail. I am able to open the files using Corel Paintshop Pro and when I do so, it looks as if the file was save as a .dng (not sure what that is). Perhaps this is why lightroom can't read them. I am looking for a solution to this problem so that I can use Lightroom to edit the files as it will save a ton of time. I hope you guys can help me. . .

 2.
I am looking to replace my rechargeable AA batteries with "new" ones and am interested in other photographers opinions. I have read several reviews and battery tests online but few of them actually talk about usage in speedlights and even fewer reviews talk about real world wedding photography usage. I currently shoot Canon and use two 430 ex II off camera, one 580 ex II on camera, and a 430 ex on my second body. I am looking for your advice as to which rechargeable AA you would recommend and why you prefer it. Thanks in advance...

 3.
I am looking to upgrade camera bodies and am looking for some "real world" advice. I am working as a second shooter and sometimes as the primary shooter for weddings and am looking to upgrade a 5D body. My choices are a used 1Ds mk iii or a new 5D mk ii. I shoot with a 24-70L and a 50 or 85mm prime mostly. I have not used either camera and so I am looking for suggestions from those pro's that have used or are currently using the above bodies and why you think they are the best tool for the job. Thanks in advance...

 4.
if you consider used gear, your options will increase dramatically. a used 30D and 40D could be purchased, or a 20D and 40D combo with two flashes and a lens might be possible depending on where and who you buy from. I have purchased several pieces used and am happy with all of them. good luck. (i also agree with the above posts to avoid loans if possible)

 5.
I just purchased two translucent white umbrellas, an adapter for my tripod, and a bracket to hold the flash and umbrella off a certain website... e-b** for $27 and am using my tripod as the light stand... it is working well for now, until i can get some $$$ for a full set up... I am very pleased for the money... i know you don't want to piecemeal the purchase but this purchase is cheaper than a lightstand...

 6.
I'd buy the canon.... I use the canon.... the alternative is the 17-55mm 2.8 IS lens.... i know that you want to go full frame in the future but, you are using a 1.6X crop body NOW and you should deliver the best images possible NOW.... in the future you will sell it all and get new gear.... who knows, maybe in the future you won't be able to tell the difference.... with the new 7D, i already can't tell ;) good luck

 7.
greg,
i had the canon 70-200 f/4 and loved it. it is a wonderful lens that is very sharp and very easy to balance on my 40D. I sold it last year for the sigma 70-200 f/2.8. the sigma copy that i have seems equally as sharp at f 4 but still somewhat soft at 2.8. my opinion is a soft 2.8 is better than no 2.8 when you have to push the limits and need 2.8. the only drawback is that the lens is heavy and i would recommend a monopod or tripod if there is no IS. I don't shoot with this focal length that much so I've settled on the sigma however, if i shot it a lot, i would probably break the bank and get the canon 70-200mm 2.8 IS mkII... oh my, decisions, decisions.....

 8.
you can offer your free service.... photographing, editing ,getting cofee, driving, etc. .... if that's not enough, sign on with a pro who cares about the art/profession of photography and is secure enough with his/her own skills and less about the $$$ they can make.... maybe he's not worth your time or energy. let's face it people, media is changing, photographers are now shooting movies, and videographers are taking stills, the fields are merging into a very creative process, and only those willing to adapt will survive...
we have two simple choices: you can chase the dollar, or you can let the dollar chase you.

 9.
5D would compliment things well, however, the 7D offers video which is something to consider if you will use it.... or, you may want to consider selling the tokina 10-17, 100mm macro, and the 85mm and purchase the 5DII.... then you would have video and a much better camera as well, plus the 16-35mm on the five D is VERY wide... probably close to the 10-17mm tokina on your 40D. oh my, decisions, decisions....

 10.
I was recently asked to shoot a wedding for a friend of my wife's. She is a close friend of the family and despite all of my reason's not to do it ,( i try not to mix business with family cause things can get ugly ;^) they are STILL interested in hiring me. I have explained that the only experience i have at shooting weddings is as a second shooter. Although i do have all the equipment necessary and i do feel i could handle the job, i am not sure what to charge them. I do feel that all work should have a fee, no matter how small. My plan is to charge them for new memory cards and batteries for my cameras/ flashes and leave it at that, the rest will be my gift to them. If they require prints or an album, then i will charge them for the cost of the materials. my question is, Is this too little to charge? am i missing any other "hidden" expenses or costs that i should be charging for?

 11.
i made the jump from the 20D to 1D mkii this year and i love it... it is a great camera with exceptional picture quality, autofocus point selection, awesome viewfinder, and fast shooting... when paired with the L glass, the pics are super sharp... now however, i find myself in a similar dilema... looking to possibly sell the mk ii to go full frame with a used 5D? ah decisions, decisions,.... i would recommend it any day of the week though... but be wary, once you go 1D and feel the heft of it, you may never want the feel of the "toy" prosumer models again!

 12.
i have the mark I version of the sigma and i love it. of course, i don't make my living with it... for me, i use it when shooting the kids at play or for other casual outdoor shots. i think you have to examine carefully what you will need to do with it and then make your choice. i do admit i use canon lenses for my portrait work though, and you just can't beat the red ring! ;^)

 13.
i wouldn't get either... i would shoot for the 24-105 f/4 IS L for the trip and then sell it used when you return if you can't afford to keep it. it will meet all of your need from the sound of it. you will only lose a small amount of the value which it would cost you if you rented it and i think the pics would be much better.... if not, i would get the 85mm... i have both lenses (85 and 28-135 and i'd take the faster aperture over the IS.) good luck and enjoy your trip.

 14.
well, how much are you willing to spend. there is about a $500 difference btwn a used 5d and a new 7D. also there is a $500 difference btwn the 24-70 and 70-200 IS. personally, i might recommend a 40D around 650 used and a used 24-70 for around 1100. then you can have both for around the same price as the 7D. I have placed the 24-70 on an XT body and the lens definately dwarfs the body but you will still get quality pics. i think the 24-70 is more practical for the kids and portrait work you are looking to move into. Might i also recommend the 50mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.8 primes for the kids and portrait work as well. I also shoot my kids a ton and find these lenses work better due to the fast aperture. You might consider a used 5D for $1200 and the 50 1.4 and 85 1.8 for around 600 used. that combo is still close to the price of a new 7D and it's Full Frame. Much better detail and low light performance than the XT will give you. well, there are tons of possibilities but they all hover around the same question. How much can you spend?
