  1. As far as I know there are only 4 cameras with backlit sensors, and that would be the Sony A9, A7R2, A7R3, and the new Nikon D850. I understand that in theory at least it's suppose to give improved noise performance, and it may, but I'm not sure I can see that dramatic a difference. Looking at the D850 in particular, and comparing it to dxomark's High iso sports score I think they call it, I see it's slightly worse than the previous D810. Granted, it's rocking about 10 more mps, but still I would have expected a little more obvious improvement. In any event if you compare it with the D500 which is not backlit you can see the old tech holding it's own in this regard. Perhaps someone of a technical nature can explain to what degree, and reason a backlit sensor preferable.
  2. Yeah, I loved film too, and had to be dragged kicking, and screaming into digital. Having done so, I wouldn't go back in spite of the fact that they are completely different in appearance. In the film vs digital debate you have a situation analogous to the old tubes vs solid state debate among Hifi enthusiasts. For my money tubes do typically sound better than solid state electronics, but often they can sound indistinguishable if the solid state amp has enough power not to clip. Anyway, I understand the attraction to film.
  3. You're right Ed, perfectly described, and the biggest thing I did miss on the A7III was the ibis, because I kept thinking what a shame it is that Nikon hasn't adopted it.
  4. One for myself, and one for the Mrs. A couple of years ago I bought an A7ll, but that didn't take, so I went back to Nikon, and a D810. This time I think the change is for good, because Sony seems to have addressed all the things that gave me trepidations with the A7ll. I really love this camera, because it's lighter, easy to clean the sensor, no optical viewfinder to build up specs of dust over time. It's just really great. Here's my concern. I'm afraid I might turn into a "Fanboy," which would make me insufferable, and that's the last thing anyone wants to see. Can anyone describe what the symptoms look like, because these things have a way of sneaking up on you. It was only last year I finally shook the worst case of GAS ever seen. Thank God for modern medicine.
  5. Well Hallelujah! The Browse section is back, but changed a little, I would say for the more eye catching. They must have been working on it for the last few days.
  6. It was working for me fine until a couple of days ago, so I have no idea what's different now.
  7. Doesn't seem to be working on my PC at least. The page is frozen and can't be scrolled down. Is everyone else having that issue, or just me?
  8. It's the principle for me, I like to own stuff outright, not be on a leash with yet another bill.
  9. I presently use Lightroom 6 which I did update this week, but I'll probably be getting a new camera in a couple of months, either the new Sony, or possibly the new XT2s. Hopefully I'll be able to continue using my Lightroom, but if not I'll need something else. Thanks for the suggestions.
  10. I refuse to buy Lightroom by subscription, so I'm interested in peoples opinions on a good replacement that would be good with either Sony, Nikon, or Fuji?
  11. If the D850 is getting roughly the same noise performance as the D810, with 45mps, compared with 36mps, it's all to the good, no?
  12. Another possibility I've been considering is the A7RMK2 , but today I came across a YouTube video that mentioned some kind of corrosion issue related to the heatsink in the camera. This seems to have been about a year ago, and I'm wondering if there was any truth to it, or if it's an issue Sony took care of. Thanks
  13. Yeah ED, A9 does look tempting especially with improved battery life, because that's a real pain otherwise. I'd kinda like a A7mklll idea just because I have fairly simple requirements for my cameras, and would rather not spend more than I need to. I've concluded that I will not buy another dslr though, even though the Nikon D850 looks incredible it's dinosaur tech at this point.
  14. Anyone have a clue when that might be announced, or are they going to dispense with it?
  15. I had two FM2's back in the eighties that were great. Light, strong, beautiful. The FM3 came later, and added Apt priority which sounded great to me at the time. Almost bought one but didn't I think because I bought a Contax ST. I kind of wish I had gotten the FM3.
  16. It might be wiser to let Nikon do the job, because bent pins should probably be replaced.
  17. I had two back when it first came out, and never had a problem with either. I thought them pretty tough, and light.
  18. Not exactly sure what it is, but there's something special about this one.
  19. I think Nikon does consider D7500 the successor to the D7200. You have to remember that the noise performance will be nearly full frame good.
