This is like a watercolor painting. Beautiful presentation.

Michael, thank you for the compliment. Amazement is what I felt that night, it was so beautiful.
-
Warren, glad you like the image. It was born of advice from local photojournalist, Bob Hallinen: "Look for silhouettes." Appreciate your comments.

Comments would be appreciated if anyone is familiar with STEVE or Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement. Thanks!

Tony & Lacey, Your comments are greatly appreciated. Check out Space Weather Live's 3-day aurora forecast = https://www.spaceweatherlive.com/en/auroral-activity/aurora-forecast or NOAA's 27-DAY OUTLOOK OF 10.7 CM RADIO FLUX AND GEOMAGNETIC INDICES = https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/27-day-outlook-107-cm-radio-flux-and-geomagnetic-indices for help in planning an aurora event. Kp4 -6 is usually a guarantee of visual and strong activity. These are just forecasts and estimates, but the Kp can spike or drop at any time. Read the data and you'll be happier that you did. Good luck with your next aurora adventure! Thanks again, Jane

Mark and .Foureyes, Thank you for your comments! This image was captured after a long night of shooting, and it was worth the hard work and persistence in subzero temps. Jane

Wayne, Gregory and Verena, and Laurent -- Thank you for your comments!! Glad you enjoyed the image. Not bad to have 1 best image out of 400 . I'd never before seen a pollen basket. Thank you. Jane Gnass

Mitch & Foureyes, Thank you both
for taking the time to comment on this image. It was taken during a spectacular boreal summer "night," i.e., endless twilight. Thanks again, Jane

Incredible textures! Such richness in the character of the hands; great detail! Wonderful image.

Thanks, Tony! The moon that night was a 4% waning crescent. The brightness on the peaks was likely light pollution reflected from the City of Anchorage, behind the camera.

The main tree is wonderful with its radiating branches. Nicely balanced space; a strong image, pleasing tones.

The subdued earthy tones frame the blue door. So much visual texture and detail--the later, weathered wood, cracks in the walls, the shadows. A strong image!
