  1. Nice, simple, it is beautiful if you could show a few things in the image, without excesive number of objects or effects. The combination of red-pink plus plane grey is one of those mix I like the most. And the detail of both birds gives the enough starring role to them in the picture.

    Hi, Bob,

You break the "nature" view by inserting that very fashionably new piece of advertising in vivid colors that match the rest of scene. Very interesting shot. Both the first distance (sand texture with some "dog?"

It should be wonderful to find those blue-ice tones up there, where the rock, snow and trees are shadowing the light from sky. Interesting shot. I like. All the best. Josemi Gondra

  2. I read the comments when I am very interested in the image and its background; this is not the case. Thanks anyway for your phylosophy response. I come to PN to enjoy, sometimes 10 seconds or sometimes 3 hours, it depends. Ikusi arte, agur. See you, bye in basque language. Josemi Gondra

    Dear Anne,

The light pinks and orange below make this image beautiful with their incredible contrast with black and dark greys in the sky. Congrats. I enjoyed 12,8 seconds... at least. Josemi Gondra.

  3. Hi, Niki,

You "touched" me in one of my favourite hobbies that´s painting art. This portrait of Paul V pope by Caravaggio is good but I suggest you take a look at Innocent X by Velazquez. The pose and colors are very similar but the face expression and the clothes texture at Velazquez one is, for my modest opinion, totally unbeatable.

But talking about photography, the atmosphere you got was superb indeed and the very low light level in the surroundings of the picture underlines the impact of light in his white clothes. The woman and the girl give the enough human content to make a "scene" and not "picture of a picture" what is usually very cold and impersonal. Very nice and fine photograph. Felicidades. Ikusi arte - see you in basque language. Josemi Gondra

  4. Dear John,

I see you have full of comments. This kind of photos are not common in PN and we enjoy with everything that is new or, at least, some innovative, in this case an image with some "violence".

I believe if you say it´s a real scene at street, that is supported by the face expression of man on the right that seems some impressed. But: the position of the hand is not very agressive, so does not add too much tension to the "disagreement" scene. The face of the man on the left is a little "cold", if he would be anxious to kick or hurt the other man, his face expression would be much agressive or his mouth would be very open or showing teeth (you know, like wolves surrounded by men with rifles).

And, of course, that man in the middle of the scene smiling... he seems to be looking at a street theatre scene or... do not know, perhaps he is not very smart.

I do not see a "violent" image, and I do not see two angry men in a strong disagreement;...sorry for that. Do not know exactly what was the fail, perhaps the timing of the image. Ikusi arte - see you. Josemi Gondra

    Bonjour, Denis,

A very nice and fine photo. It is close to an integral nude but we see nothing so very fine, suggestion is the power of beauty. The model has a beautiful body and the wonderful pose with her eyes looking up are giving us the opportunity to think about everything (wishes, dreams, fears,...). The old and desequilibrated armchair and the background in full colour, including something similar to a rainbow on the right is the perfect detail, underlined by her red lips and shoes. Congratulations. Mes sincere salutations. Josemi Gondra

  5. Ordinariez.

  6. Hi, Gareth,

Thanks for your words. I put this image in "humour" section, but I know perhaps somebody would be a little sceptic about the situation, that was totally live, direct and real.

It is an area of a small holidays city in the south of Spain and the buildings density is high and streets very narrow so they began working at 8:30 a.m. (we woke up with the noise made by machinery); of course, if it would be Germany, that would have happened at around 7:00 a.m., but you know this is south of Spain.

Later my family was taking breakfast - me included - 5 inches from the window and less than 2 metres, in some moments, from this big spoon working to destroy the old building to build a new one. All my boys were enthusiastic to see when spoon was scratching the walls and building structure and knocking down the structure in a couple of mornings.

Great experience - if your house is not affected -  that´s right !

  7. Grazie, Mauricio, for your words. We share a lot of things, like amore alla montagna, and I was practicing trial (this motorcycles specialties where, in "my generation" the champion of the world was Martin Lampkin, Yrjö Vesterinen and the best spanish was Manuel Soler, a very smart pilot from Catalunya) from 13 years old to around 21, when I abandoned to dedicate some more time to my girlfriend, now my wife. Hope you enjoyed.  Ikusi arte - see you in basque language.

    Hi, Gareth,

My first smile today at PN was because of chocolate, you know. Now I enjoy smiling again, but...; we know some stories about the men and the scottish kilts, but we do not know the true about these "trousers ??", "stocking ??", "classical ballet training fashion???" (the bag seems to be some sports related).

We see it is a big crop of some of your images, but it IS the nice crop and, as you mentioned, it is useful to bring smiles to our screens. Up with red hair women ! ! ! Chocolately yours. Josemi Gondra

    Great combination

After lunch, i took my mug with hot milk-coffee (spanish coffee, not north american water, you should understand) and a bit of chocolate. I open my best book, a window at my back, and I enjoy the book, the coffee, the chocolate and one of my best 15" everyday. Your image reminded me of this. Congratulations for shaking my head. Ikusi arte. Josemi Gondra

  8. Kaixo, Jose Angel,

Ikusi arte.

Alluitz is a very special mountain for me and gives me special reminders. This is one of the best compositions I saw of it; you´ve got a very good depth with peaks and holes in the rock walls and the group of sheeps is strategically positioned to help your image to be 7/7. See you.

It´s a bit like surrealism, due to you did almost eliminate the horizon line and put 95% of the image being sky with clouds. I like the most the 50% down of the image, the upper part is some blurred (with very low definition). All the best. Josemi Gondra

    Rock fun

Hope this could be accepted at "Concerts" category, if not, I would

choose "Humor"; better, if you do not consider it funny, pls. make your

critique as "Children", or better in "Teenagers"...ummm, that does not

exist yet. Ok, "Travel" could be ok, because I do not live in London yet,

or "portraits" because the boy is close to the shot. Oh, ups, wuau, pls.

choose yourself category and give me your opinion. Eskerrik asko.

    Thanks indeed.

  9. I think it´s the best photo in your presentation. Simply because it is simple and looks spontaneous, natural. The extreme whiteness of the model´s skin and some areas of shadow give enough contrast to give interest to the image. I like the pose in an angle: lower right to upper left, gives dynamism and probably a little "tension" (desequilibrium or what ever it is said) to the action. Congrats. Ikusi arte - see you. Josemi Gondra

  10. It´s one of my favourite latin women singers. I love her voice and her natural pose. The turquoise color in the cloth is nice for her. In other images of your portfolio she is probably more beauty but this one has "movement", "action", nice position of guitar and... that man in the background with the "trombon". Nice, beauty, happy shot. Congrats. Josemi Gondra.

P.D.: All the best to Julieta, her team and her loverly voice and lyrics.

  11. Hi, Nick,

I must say you did it very well with very few means. The light level is very low and there is not any special object or people but the moon in the sky. You put those trees to make an excellent shot and the pink light is good harmony with black and violets. Optimum shot. Bye. Josemi Gondra

You´ve got it, Isabelle. I see the shot is full colour but due to the shadow of advanced afternoon or early in the morning, all tones are close to grey and black and white. I like these photos with peaceful atmosphere and very low color contrast. Nice composition and geometry and very interesting clouds and sky, like in a oil painting. Well done. Josemi Gondra.

P.D.: Your family name is curious, Is that from Belgium or Wales or what ?

  12. Hi, John,

Do not know what exact carom drove me to this shot but I was instantly attracted by the innocent freshness of these happy boys. The composition is excellent and I am a little intrigued about what they want to do. It seems to be very difficult to go up on that lamppost with their weak arms and hands.

When reading other critiques I laughed because I was to ask you same as Bill - you know, what year ... - but I will not do it. I recognized it is some old because they dress short trousers and the boy is not dressing his cap front-side rear like now they do.

I am asking me some subjects that could be part of that article that used this photo as illustration, or perhaps it was an article on photography itself. Congratulations for a great shot. Ikusi arte, John. Josemi Gondra
