Good image and composition of an interesting and rare flower, and thanks for your detailed and helpful comments. I like flowers and I am always trying to learn their names in books and on the internet in different languages. Yet their beauty is universal. Perhaps a thinner and darker frame would be more effective. Thanks for sharing. Dara

Dear Behzad, I viewed this image larger by clicking on it to see more detail. I like your work and this strong and effective black and white picture. Thanks for sharing

  1. I was interested to see how the final image looks after being shot on film scanned and converted to a digital image, therefore I opened your image after reading your comments on it.  I am not sure if this grainy effect can be achieved so well using Lightroom or Photoshop Grain effect among other things. The grain of Tri-X Kodak film is very natural and artistic to my eye. Especially as your image has such good lighting. Also to shoot the image digitally and play with the color sliders to get a similar black and white effect and add sepia tone, somehow I think it would not match this. I do not really understand the detailed procedures and alternatives in film developing and printing that well as you explained, yet I like this final outcome and good portrait. Nicely done and thanks for sharing. (Also credit to Kodak Tri-X film)

  2. Clever and well presented, Unique work Joerg. It is a long while now, since I have been back to Germany, but I sometimes try to follow the news here in my country (Iran) on Deutsche Welle, ZDF, and RTL2 Schweiz (Switzerland) . I think in one way, when you do not have full Political union in Europe and only Currency union these problems are bound to happen. Yet which country in Europe is prepared to give up her soverighnty (wrong spelling I am sure to lazy to set spell checker :)- independence-, for being united considering the deep, rich and old culture of Europe, plus the divisions, the wars etc. Another point, when I was paid my salary in Deutsch Marks in the year 1993 as I worked at various companies in Germany for each 1 DM I got I had more spending power than for each 1 Euro I later earned after currency conversion. I leave it at that. I think European Banks including the ones in Great Britain do not give the proper interest rate on money put in saving accounts in their own countries. Therefore, not only attracting money from investors in their own countries but also from other countries outside the European Union. Therfore, weakening their own currency. For example, in the year 1977 in the Banks in Great Britain you could hold High interest saving accounts in valuable Pound Sterling at the rate of 19% fixed for 90 days. So if a country like say oil rich Iran or the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia invested 40 billion pounds each time for one account for 90 days then you see what I mean. Wealth for that country plus positive investment in that country. Which is a lot when you compare it to what you get today about 2% only on a long interest 6 to 1 year account at say HSBC Bank. These are just my thoughts among many that your image brings to mind. Thanks for sharing your work, regards and Gruesse

  3. It reminds me of the statue of the unknown Russian soldier I saw many years ago towering over the russian war memorial in West Berlin that was before the wall came down. It was in the British military sector of West Berlin, and you could not approach it from within 200 meters as it was guarded by Soviet soldiars only if you went by tour bus you could see it from close by which I decided to do then. The battle for Berlin one of the brutalest battles of the Second World War. Street to street and house to house fighting. The population of Berlin suffered for the worst with many incidents of looting, murder and worst rape. The defeated Germans could not expect any pity from their Russian victors as the brutal Nazi SS, SD and Gestapo had burnt villages and destroyed crops and live stock and mass executed, murdered, looted and raped many innocent people in Russia.  In any case interesting perspective and impressive image with good lighting. One wonders what is the story behind these men. What horrors they had to put up with to defend their country. Best regards to you Pierre

I wonder what is the difference between Pixel Bender plug in and one of the standard filters in CS5  that produces a similar effect? In any case interesting work and nice touch with the aircraft montage.

    1- ;)

2- Nice the way you have shot the picture of the child at his eye level and close up.

3- I like the engagement on the boy's face as well as the back ground, perspective lines, black and white documentary approach, technique etc.

4- meaningful image that makes me think.

    Nicely done.

  4. Usually pictures of children should be taken at their own eye level, a rule of photography. Due to this there is not much detail in the subject's face as it should be. The blown out snowy highlights do not help me much either. Average image.

Nicely composed image and perspective. Interesting positioning of the three foreground figures relative to the camera/ view point, it draws the eye into this busy yet harmonious picture. Perhaps more detail in the sky? Interesting and artistic post processing presentation. Interesting and nice work. D
