1.
I recommend the New F1 AE, I have four of them that I used professionally for about 25 years, and although I have had a T90 for about 20 years that I use occasonaly when I need TTL flash I wouldn't take it with me on an assignment as the only camera when I had to come back with publishable pictures not excuses

  2.
My E.F had the same fault when I bought it and I had it serviced I have no problems with it now, your camera's electronics have a fault that needs professional attention , I suggest you have it repaired by a pro.

  3.
I don't know exactly but as far as I remember around 25 years ago so 1991 could be right , I suggest you ask Canon if the exact date is so important to you.

  4.
To me the most significant practical difference is that the new type with poly carbonate barrels are much lighter in weight to lug around if you have a bag full of them over your shoulder. I used both types professionally every day for more than twenty five years as a photojournalist and prejudices aside I found the "plastic" ones in no way inferior to the breech lock ones and I'm still using them .

  5.
You can get big head shots like this Kevin with the 180 lens pair without racking out the bellows and giving yourself the attendant exposure increase problems it can cause you.

  6.
You got the lens cheap, why risk making it into an expensive paperweight, have it serviced buy a professional camera technician, because what would be a simple routine job to him could be a disaster if you attempt it.

    Eye to Eye

At last, a high key portrait shot by someone who knows how, because I see so many poorly executed attempts by people who don't really know what the term means congratulations Colin this is very competent work.
  8.
Although I admit I have never owned an old F1 but I have four F1N's that I used professionally for around thirty years before I retired, and one advantage is they run on currently manufactured easily available PX 28 Silver Oxide, or PX28 L Lithium batteries have a much more sensitive than the old F1's CdS metering have a Silicon cell TTL meter and even without batteries work with all the mechanical shutter speeds from 1/125 th to 1/2000th of a second.

    Katina

Very nice Ken the lighting composition and position of the head in the frame are excellent except it's spoiled for me by double catch-lights in the sitters eyes that give her a slightly maniacal gaze, the lower ones should be removed then it will be perfect .

    Renee Lang

Renee is a very beautiful girl Russell that although competently photographed I feel could have been improved be using a reflector to the sitters right to bounce some more light into her eyes and make the catch-lights brighter and generally illuminate the models eye sockets.
  11.
Removing the bottom on the original F1 or the F1n to fit the motor drive will not expose the film in mid roll, it's only the new F1 that it will.

  12.
Tim T - I suggest you contact Newton Ellis & Co in Liverpool http://www.newtonellis.com/canon/

  13.
Your camera light meter needs some professional attention and a C.L.A wouldn't go amiss because it probably hasn't had any maintenance since it was manufactured more than thirty years ago.

  14.
No that's not true without the AE finder it's matched needle fully manual metering.

  15.
Try dulling spray. https://www.calphoto.co.uk/product/K-Line-Dulling-Spray-Matte/193-290C?gclid=CjwKEAjwq-OsBRDd95aryprR9wQSJACQnU3GO-RWvbkCU-RYU5Y-Hvxyy3Oxn2xnuy_Z3oOKnUyGP

  16.
I would have bought a Nikon F if I could afford it but unfortunately I was a marine in those days I couldn't afford to buy any camera on what I was paid.

  17.
When the Konica Aiborg was born the midwife slapped it in the mouth.

  18.
To have an AE1 CLA'd would cost about twice as much as the camera is worth, I suggest you send it back to where you got it from for a refund and buy another one that does work, there are more of them available on auction sites than you can shake a stick at.

  19.
I agree, the FD 50mm f1.4 is the best bang for your buck.

  20. This is a really fine monochrome head and shoulders portrait, the composition with the sitters head angled to the left of the frame and the space on the right of the frame to balance the composition in the direction the top of her nearest arm is pointing is perfect, she has beautiful eyes and a good expression and her skin tone is good and it has a bloom to it .The lighting is soft and subtle isn't too contrasty for a female portrait and puts her nose shadow in exactly the right place. Congratulations, I teach portrait photography and would be proud to have taken this.
  21.
For "environmental portraits" on 35mm film I like the 35mm focal length.

  22.
I suggest you buy another 300TL there as cheap as chips these days and cheaper than getting the existing one repaired.

  23.
"A Kodak moment" has really changed it's meaning in business, these days it means a company that fails to anticipate the speed of technological and market changes.

  24.
The Canon Corporation always maintained that during their tests of the prototypes of these cameras they discovered a mirror lock on the T90 and the New F1 was unnecessary and because the mirror mechanism was so well damped they omitted it.
