Thank you SO MUCH! That is amazing! I can see there's a lot to photoshop that i don't know. :) Thinking of taking a community college class on it since it's so complex.

Also thanks for the compliments on my daughter- it works well because she is uber cute and loves to have her photograph taken!

My daughter at the zoo. I wish the woman in the background wasn't

there... I didn't even notice her in the photo until I got home. Is

there a way to remove her without making the photo look ridiculous?

hahaha yes, i figured they were flowers.

I don't know. They were much bigger and, um, bloomier before? and they are growing from a thorny bush, not the ground.

But, they are pretty, and since they thrive without any intervention from me, I keep them.

This was a bride at her bridal shower, wearing the hat made of all the

ribbons that were on the presents... the room for the shower was

difficult lighting, as it was an open space in an old building, and

the windows were strangely tinted, making it hard to get rid of

    strange hues.

Thanks- I was practicing a technique picked up in Scott Kelby's photoshop book, though i didn't make the underlying image b&w liek he did, and chose a different type of photograph to do it with.

WDC is very great, especially in the spring. It's a short metro ride away for me. :)

    Thank you!

I have been off-line for a few days with the Holiday (Thanksgiving) and this adorable cutie has the chicken pox! :( (Thanks, vaccine!) I will take a look. :)

Unfortunately, this was shot from a pier onto rocks below, about 6-8 feet down, and so eye-level was not an option. But, I agree, it would have made it much more interesting.

I looked at your profile- your shots are simply amazing. Thanks for taking the time to comment on my photo.

Thanks for the advise- I had thought the opposite, that I had to hasten the shutter speed to freeze the snowflakes mid-air. I will try slowing it down a bit next time it snows. Luckily, winter in our neck of the woods is supposed to be more snowy than usual, so I should get some nice practice! :)

    Again, great photo!

Pnina, I got this immediately. Great and important artistic statement. For me, it speaks to how commercialized America is, and how we think of the world only in what is presented to us through the media and Hollywood. It's very sad how many Americans know the intimate details of celebrity goings-on, but very little about the state of the world and people suffering in it. Wonderful photo, and I agree with the previous posters about the technicalities of the photo- very nice lighting, composition, etc.
  1. This is wonderful! I would love to be there with my best friend, basking in the sun, looking at the water and discussing the sights of Greece! Oh, I wish I lived in Europe so I could travel to such interesting places! :) Very wonderful pictures. On a broader note, I looked at this whole series, and the colors and compositions are very striking. Beautiful work!

M Nelson- I didn't even think about coloring the leaves- thanks! I will give that a try this weekend. I am new to photoshop but I am finding it quite easy to learn and very fun to play with! Thanks for your offer to help- I will take you up on that if I get stuck! :)

John- Thanks so much for your wonderful comments. They really made my day!

Regarding the waterfall- the more I think about it, I'm glad I decided not to slow the shutter speed. I have never been near a waterfall before this, and the first thing that hit me was how powerful and loud it was, which is something I didn't expect. I could hear it well before we got around the cliff to the waterfall itself. I think slowing down the water would take away from that. Not necessarily in every photo, but this one, for me personally, I mean.

Again, thanks for the great comments and tips. Mostly when I post I get mediocre ratings with no suggestions for improvements, and that can be frustrating. I am very happy to see good feedback and suggestions I can use to improve my next photo!

  2. Thank you for the compliment. :) And yes, Upper Marlboro is very close. Upper Marlboro is right off of Route 4 / Pennsylvania Avenue (which goes all the way into DC) and 301, which goes South into VA, in Prince George's County. North Beach is approximately 20 minutes south of Upper Marlboro on Route 4.
