  2. We live in Indiana and have always wanted to go to this part of Michigan. Now that I've seen this, even more so! Wonderful colors and lines, and the starbursts give it a special boost. Bravo!
  3. Though I would normally agree with Benjamin, I think in this case the shadows caused by the bright light actually add to this.  At first look it's a jumbled mess, which becomes coherent and artistic the longer I look at it.....taking on an almost abstract look.  I really like the way you've cropped it as well!  Nice work!

  5. Back for another visit.  After reading the comment by Dimitris above, I wonder if you can elaborate on how you created the mist.  It does look very natural.  Amazingly so!
  6. I love your stories as much as I love your photography! This turned out great! A+ for execution and creativity!
  7. Just after dawn, he was one of the first people to cross the finish line of the Missoula Marathon. I thought he looked just like Jimmy Fallon and I actually sent this to the Tonight Show for them to consider using.

  9. Saw these behind an old general store in a small town in Indiana.

  11. To be perfectly honest, when I took this I knew nothing about ISO, aperture, shutter speed or depth of field. So this was luck! I never would have taken this at f4. As far as the focal distance, I wasn't too far away from him. This was at a small zoo, and he was behind a fence in a lovely natural setting. He was obviously used to people being around and assumed this very relaxed and natural pose. Thanks, Radu!
  12. Wayne and Gail, I preferred it in B&W because it seemed to bring out the lighting on his antlers. Thanks for your appreciation of this!

    Sailing

Beautiful pastels and a lovely painterly effect.
  14. Mike, Bill and Patsy.....thank you all for your kind expressions. And Bill, yes, I'm digging up old stuff. But only because I now have an editing program that will allow me to attach key words to my photos. So I'm going back to the beginning and deleting thousands of photos, and as I do so, I'm pulling a few images out here and there. No pressure.....this will take me a long time.....but it will simplify my life so much when I need to go back and find an image. What's really interesting is that in doing so I realize how much I've learned in the past couple of years. For instance, tho' I like this shot, I had no earthly idea what I was doing when I shot this. I see that it was shot at f4, which is definitely not what I would now choose. :-)
  15. Thanks so much, and it's always nice to hear from a 'new face'. :-)
  16. Mike, Jon, Michael, Patsy, Tommy and Holger, I almost didn't post this thinking it wouldn't garner any attention. So I thank you for your appreciation of this.....and, Mike, thanks to Martha as well. :-)
  17. I might repeat the comment you left on my snowfall image......the same applies here: An exceptionally good composition makes a good picture out of not much of a motive. That is good work.
  18. Thanks so much, and also for your reference to the Hartland Bridge. I looked it up.....nice that they put a pedestrian walkway along side of it. We also have a very long bridge here in Indiana, though not quite as long as Hartland. I don't have a good image of it yet though. I'm going to send you an private message asking you about New Brunswick. :-)

    Softness

I'd love a flower identification please. And please give me your thoughts on this. It's not exactly tack sharp, but I think it works for the subject matter. Would like your thoughts on this.

  23. Andres......Yes, I agree. In fact, I just went to a Joel Grimes workshop where he showed how to do composites, and this would make a great setting for me to place something in the bridge. No chance of it actually happening in real life though. This is in a really remote part of Indiana and we didn't see ANY cars or people for a long time. Thanks for the suggestion to make it B&W. I'll have a look at that. Patsy....as always, thanks for taking the time to comment! Holger.....that light coming in the top was one of the things that I love too. Thanks! Warren, we have a lot of covered bridges in Indiana. I want to do a calendar featuring many of my images. I've never been to any of the New England bridges though. We'll do that on one of my dream trips......we want to take an RV trip starting in the eastern provinces of Canada and work our way down the Eastern seaboard in autumn. Can't wait! I'm retiring in June!!!!!
  24. This is an example of Burr Arch Truss bridge design, common to many of the covered bridges in Indiana. Here is a link if you want more info on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burr_Truss
