I've had to delete many comments of a short congratulatory nature this week. So I thought I'd explain here in the forum rather than email each one of you. For those of you who are writing in another language. Those were deleted only because they were "congratulations" comments with no critique. Somehow what came to mind is the old coppertone commercial with the dog pulling at the little girl... Which is a good thing because it was a memorable and classic shot. I think this could be a "stock" shot for the islands or even for suntan lotion.. Well done!

Love it! I might have had her put her veil around the front though so you couldn't see it.. Just my thought

There is another way to do this.. Good idea but not working because it looks too contrived. (Except the kids but even that is a little overworked) (in my opinion, of course).. Instead.. Just tell them to "take a moment".. Hang out and talk to each other .. touching is allowed.. hugs,, etc. Let them gather into a group and shoot them where they fall..

Great color..Super! Still the groom just doesn't look "into it"... He looks like he is posing which is something I'd encourage you to try and work on.

Hope I cn help here.. Look at how your subjects have super bright sunlight on one side of their faces. I'd have moved them off that part of the stairs.. Somewhere where they are in the shade! Bright shade..close the the line between sun and shade so the sunlight would bounce in and help fill shadows.. Furthermore - too many people are hidden.. One way to solve this is to have the younger men and kids sitting/kneeling in front.

Technically I think you've done well.. Perfect exposure, color etc.. The horizon at her shoulder - works.. However, I'm just not a fan of overly posed shots because there is no emotion in the shot except perhaps - uncomfortablilty and self conciousness.

May I suggest ditching the flowers and having the couple get comfortable and just tell them to kiss, hug talk and enjoy the moment.. They'll give you some memorable moments and honest/beautiful expressions.

Very emotional! You really "feel" the moment which I always love.. A little fill flash or getting them in bright shade would have avoided the overblown highlights on her forhead and

her arm.

Interesting... I had a totally different feeling about this photo, John Kelly..

I thought it was a pleasant and wonderful character study. If I was that fiesty - bargin hunting beauty -- I'd be flattered!

I totally plan to be a long haired 60's looking 70 year old and I hope someone wants to capture my uniqueness someday! I get the feeling that she is proud of her look as well as her ability to find expensive shoes for $10. She knows her stuff ;-)

I've never been to Miami -- Yet - I see what I believe is a typical retired lady in Florida ;-) Seeing the items in the background to the left - it says flea market to me - or garage sale.

This image is a study of an interesting character looking for a bargan, dressed up in her sunday best.. Love the sunglasses and the "look"...

Perhaps because I've seen this particular type of person in NY City I immediately identified her and found it to be a fabulous capture of a woman of a certain age, background and lifestyle. She looks like quite a character and I think it is priceless..

For those of you that appreciate patterns in nature...(and a good many do) May I suggest:

I began my interest in photography at the age of 10 when I used to spend lots of time looking through coffee table books of nature photography, landscape photography and macros. Those images inspired me to pursue photography.

I still enjoy "seeing" common subjects in a special way and still it takes my breath away. Some may call it eye-candy and I respect it is just not to their taste. I do, however, embrace and enjoy attempts to create abstract art through photography.

I do like this image but prefer the Geusebroek ice shots in the link above... Still - nice attempt. I hope the photographer continues to pursue the frosty feathers with different natural lighting and am envious that I don't get to experiment myself since I've moved away from Vermont and am in the warmer winters.

Moderator #2 Comment: I am now the second moderator to ask members to stick to the image and not the "issue" of the POW selection or whether manipulation is valid or acceptable in photography. I've just deleted 29 comments and many of them were rude and inflammatory or chat-room type dialog. Please address issues of PS vs photos and PN policy of allowing manipulated images on this site or as a POW to the appropriate forum. That would be the Feedback forum.

My normal practice is to write to a member that has a comment deleted but when there are this many I do a bulk delete.

There are all types of photographers on this site. Some are into digital manipulation. They can have their day on the POW forum too. Feel free to discuss the quality or lack of quality of the manipulation resulting in this final image but not about whether a manipulated photo is valid as POW or that being manipulated it automatically does not consitute a photograph.

Moderator note: Personal attacks and name calling is not allowed on this forum. Please refrain. I've edited out inflammatory statements. Points have been made and rather than beat it to death (and each other) please move on.

Moderator Note: Ok I guess I'm going to have to step in sooner rather than later.

Let's not turn this into one of those old and tired discussions about Manipulated or not Manipulated... Furthermore, I will insert [opinion] if you state things as fact that are not known. So ;-) I'd suggest that people realize that many times the "facts" you present about another person's work are your opinion. Please phrase your comments in that light. I'm going to try not to edit/delete the PS or not PS comments but if it gets out of hand I'll have to.

Sometimes you'll have to agree to disagree and move on. Cheers..

Moderator Note - Ok - This argument can go on forever and is more suited to the Philosophy of Photography forum. Please critique the image and since it is a montage - how well was it done...or not..as well as other aspects of the image itself. Thanks.

Again I recommend watching out for that sun... You don't want blown highlights on skin... Go for backlight - keep body and face in shade with a little reflective light on face or fill flash

Natural - sweet.. Too bad she's in direct sun...

If possible (sometimes it isn't) - make the car move to a shady spot with backlighting or at least shady.. No more black eyesockets..or dark shadows in smile lines.
