1.
I didn't like the 24-120 that much on my D750. I sold it and bought a used 24-70. You are right though, its expensive. I think I'd prefer the D7100 with a 17-55mm over anything with the 24-120. That lens just had too many compromises for me.

2. When you have it on the metering mode looks like spot metering with a little asterisk next to it. I have only used it a few times but did not find it particularly useful. Seems to be only useful for stage photography which is something I do not do.
3. I used this lens on my D750 and I was pleasantly surprised with the lens. Not as good as my Nikon 27-70 f2.8 in my unscientific opinion. But a nice lens and good value. I was specifically pleasantly surprised with the snappy auto focus and the nice high contrast images. As discussed in this thread recently:http://www.photo.net/nikon-camera-forum/00dRlv I'll try to dig up some images for you.
4. Rodeo Joe, I did not do any scientific testing but the Tamron did not track AF as well as the Nikon and the contrast, though good, was not as uh, contrasty (that's a word right?). Also there was some definitely some chromatic aberration but hey... I was surprised at how fast the tamron did focus and how contrasty it was, but it was still not as good, in my unscientific opinion. Also the Nikon is more solid, but it also weighed a lot more.
5. If you want the best picture and you are willing to drop some serious cash and carry some serious weight then you are going to go with the Nikkor. I used a tamron 24-70 2.8 and I was surprised how good it was, but it was not as good as the Nikon 24-70 2.8 (non vr). I'm sure the new one will be even better. Enjoy your spare cash and lightweight gear!
6. Send it back, BH won't give you a hard time about it anyway.
7. This is an excellent question and I'm relieved to see that other people who know how to use their cameras are mystified when it comes to auto iso and flash.

Shun is on to something. If we keep ordering stuff from BH to our places of employ, we will be happier there!

B&H shipping

I am eagerly awaiting my new 35mm fx Nikkor f1.8 from BH today. Shipped to my place of work, which always has people on hand to receive. Don't want my camera gear sitting on my front stoop unattended at home.
10. Oops, not your family. Enjoy a family! Any family!
11. Congrats, you're putting it good use! I felt the same way going from D80 to D7000 and now from D7000 to D750. Enjoy the camera (and family too)!
12. No problems with my D750 and Sandisk cards. I also recommend using (USB3) card readers, way faster and no chance of catching the cable and dropping your camera off your desk or work area.
13. For a 24-70 f2.8 equivalent the 17-55 f2.8 is the way to go (talking both Nikons here). They are the best, even though they are a little aged.
14. I just sold my 24-120 f4 for a used Nikon 24-70 f2.8. I am happy I did it. The 24-70 focuses so much faster and its just a better tougher sharper more contrasty lens. As for the low light, my D750 is a huge step up from my old D7000, but that's a pretty big outlay and you did not list that as an option (no grief from me about getting rid of your D7000!).
15. I love my D750 but I did not like the 24-120 f4. I thought I was tired of carrying around 2.8's (I had a D7000 and a 17-55 f2.8) so I thought the 24-120 would be a nice downsize compromise. But I found the focus tracking slow and the lens was much larger than I expected. The range to 120mm was surprising and a little strange since I was used to the the 17-55 (~24-70 in FF). In the end I sold the lens to KEH for pretty good money, about what I paid for it when considering the kit price. I bought myself a used 24-70 f2.8 and I love it. If you are only doing portraits than maybe the 24-120 is ok for you, I don't know if you'll miss the f2.8-f4 range or not. I love the D750, it is a huge step up from the D7000 in terms of high ISO, focus speed and overall awesomeness. For shooting my kids, you cannot beat the D750 in low light, great colors and AF, for the money that is. As for buying used, I would not hesitate buying used from BH, KEH or Adorama.
16. Thanks Edward, I'll check out the Rotation! Not a lot of camera stores where I live so its hard to check them in person. Amazon will let you return but gotta pay the return shipping. Better than getting stuck with a bag you don't like.
17. I am looking for something with a side access. I find that handy not to have to take the pack all the way off.
18. Trying to find the right case for a trip. The Lowepro DSLR 350 was too small for my modest kit. It wouldn't really fit a D750 w 70-200 f4. The Ape Case ACPRO3000 looks right and the dimensions are bigger according to the specs. But not a single review of it anywhere. Seems like Ape Case has a decent reputation. My kit is a D750 with one of 4 lenses attached and then the other stuff can go up top. Is that weird that there's no reviews?
19. I sold my 70-200 f2.8 VR1 for the new f4. I really appreciate the lighter weight. Its also a great at focusing quickly and accurately. The one stop I don't miss-- especially upgrading from a D7000 to a D750. Focus breathing if it exists doesn't bother me because I don't think about it and never will. I never used the VR2 and I loved the VR1 but I got tired of its excessive bulk. The f4 is a great lens.
20. I bought a d750 and the 50 1.4g as well. My 50 gets stuck at infinity and then won't focus unless I mess with the focus ring. Gonna send it in this week...
21. I must drink too much coffee! I can't imagine hand holding at 1/100 or slower at 200 or 300mm. Here's to vr. I look forward to owning this lens in a couple years.
22. The problem is that the vr isn't effective at 1/100 sec handheld at 300mm? That seems like a lot to ask even for $2k. I would buy this lens.
23. I owned a 17-55 which I bought used from KEH. It was a great lens. I only sold it because I went full frame. I sold it to KEH so they should have a cheap one on hand :) But seriously I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Bargain grade lens from KEH, having had great experiences with them. I would rather buy from them than a private sale, they'll let you return anything if you're not happy with it.
