Im in the process of purchasing a micro lens. Since I have a D40x and for a lens to AF, I believe my choices
are one of the following AF-S Micro- NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED or AF-S VR Micro- NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED.
Would you please tell me what would be the advantage of one over the other. I would like to specifically take
closeup pictures of flowers and insects. Is one better than the other? If so, what makes it better for my choice of
subjects? If I should be looking at something different, please say so.
Thank you for any assistance.

29.95 seems to be a very fair price!
Let me know when it's available to the rest of us.

You hit the nail on the head. I reduced the size of the file and everything works!
Thank you!

Thank you for helping!
All of my files are .jpg
I believe it is the size of the file that is causing me the problem. I'll reduce the size and see if that makes a difference.
Thank you again for your suggestions.

For years I've been able to insert photos taken with a Nikon 995 into WordPerfect
Documents. I now have a Nikon D40x and the pictures will not transfer. Any
thoughts as to why or what I can do to change this would be helpful. Just so you
know, I tried to insert old (995) photos and they still work. I also tried on another
computer and had the same results. Thank you for any assistance.

Thanks Juanjo ~
I think I remember reading about "prime" lenses? Is this what is called a prime lens and if yes, what makes it prime vs another lens?

I'm very new to this and would like to start taking pictures of flowers and
grasses. In paticular the flowering portion of ornamental grasses. Please,
keep it simple, I'm probably as rank a beginner as they come.
I see all of the wonderful pictures of insects and flowers where just an eye or
a single petal is in focus and would like to be able to do the same. I have an
18-200mmf3.5~5.6G vr lens and would like to get even closer. What do you
suggest?
Thank you for your time and interest.

I was asked this morning if the battery that comes in the D40/D40x is a "smart"
battery or a battery that if you recharge it "early" it loses some of its
ability to charge in the future. Anyone know? Thank you.

Thank you for your answers. I'm not sure I like what you have stated, "it's normal" but at least I know that I didn't do anything wrong.

1st - I'd like to thank all you who respond to questions. My wife purchased a
D40X as a retirement gift (teaching for 37 years). I?m having a wonderful time
and thanks to you, I learn daily from you as I read the Nikon Forum. Thank you!
My question: Yesterday when I tilted my camera toward the ground, the lens
extended without "me" turning anything. I stopped the extension but when I let
go, it continued to the maximum extension. I haven't banged or dropped the
lens. Everything seems to work well but I'm concerned. Any suggestions would
be helpful.

I wouldn't use a borrowed flash. Use the flash on your camera and your 18-55 lens. Set the camera on GREEN as Elliot suggested and sit on the floor or on a step stool. If you have a Monopod, use it. You can try your 55-200mm f/4-5 DX VR zoom lens with the VR set to ON.
Have Fun!!!!

As a new owner of a D40X, I had some of the same questions. I purchased the same DVD and found it to quite good. There are two books that were recommended to me and I've found to be exceptional. The Digital Photography Book - Scott Kelby & Understanding Exposure Revised Edition - Bryan Peterson. Both are available at Amazon. Some don?t like Kelby?s humor but the infomation is IMHO, very good.

You might want to check out the 995 before you purchase a 990.
