Fantastic image, Monte!

Can be viewed larger, Comments and suggestions are appreciated,
Compared to trying to photograph these guys flying, this was easy:
point and shoot!
Thanks for looking.

Thanks, Rashed and Monte.
Monte, I think you must be right about photographing swallows and bats: very erratic flight so it's hard to track them or anticipate where they're going, unless you're at a nest (swallows -- I've never tried to photograph bats; I don't think they are very common around northern Chicago suburbs).
I wish I could get these guys in focus and filling more of the frame. Also, I'd like a more interesting background than this water. But when they fly past trees or just about anything else, I lose focus. hard enough to keep the central focus point on these guys.
When I use my 400 f/5.6, I find it's very hard to find them in the viewfinder and then to track them keeping them in focus is really tough. These shots are really just the result of luck and taking a lot of shots. I get a keeper rate of about 1 in 25, I think. I wish I had your skills.
I'd appreciate any tips or advice you can offer. Thanks for commenting.

Thanks again, Monte -- I tried your suggestion and it certainly improved the image. Now I have to do a little "doctoring" to get some wing tips in the image.
-
Thanks, Monte; I will do that. Sorry I clipped the wing on the left and I couldn't get the redwing any lighter. Would have been nice to see his "talons".
And thanks to all for your comments.

Beautiful photo, Monte. The nice soft background complements the color of the bird very nicely. The diagonal perch adds a dynamic element to the image. Subject is sharp. Hard to get any better than this.

Critiques and suggestions for improvements are appreicated.

Thanks to all. Special thanks to Sinh Nhut for pointing out the need for noise reduction. I agree. I was tired when I was PPing the image, and neglected to run noise reduction. I think I also over-burned the branch on the left side and made a few other errors.

Very, very nice image, Bill. Your background works well, and I like the composition a lot.
Congratulations!

Very nice photo, Oguz. Lots of detail in the harrier, and the intense, highly focused face further enhances the picture. You have captured the way we often see this kind of bird. Very nicely done.

Beautiful, Bill. The BG is great in drawing attention to both the hummer and the flower, I really like the composition of this photo; very nicely balanced.

Nice backlight on the left wing, and the bird looks sharp with lots of nice detail in the feathers. The softness of the flower and the very bright area in upper left detract from the over all impression. I think you can fill the bright area with the surrounding color. Maybe burning the flower would make its softness less distracting or perhaps you could just clone it out.
i hope you find these comments helpful.

Critiques and suggestions most welcome. Image can be viewed at larger

Thanks, Iftikhar, for the heads up on the color cast. I really appreciate you telling me this. I fixed it. Don't know about uploading the corrected version.

Hi Brad --
I like this image very much. Very interesting point of view that captures a sense of the intelligence of the raven.
Good title as well. Is a "Hidden X" coming?
Keep up the good work!
best,
