Picked up a really nice F4 (my first) last week, and wanted to test the manual focus indicator in the viewfinder. I used a 50mm F/1.2 wide open and focused on Rachel's left eye. Pretty impressed, and probably more accurate than my organic focusing methods!

Notice the partial heterochromia iridum in her left eye too. First time I've seen that. Cool, but a little freaky.

Here's my NKVD FED 1d (I think). It's one of those with the funky serial number, and appears to be a bit of a mutt. Still, I like it!

I agree that the 24mm shot looks like it had a little more exposure than the zoom image. How old is the lens? Is it possible that the aperture blades are a little sticky and are not closing to the correct setting quickly enough?

Yeah, definitely an F3, and I think the lens is most likely a 35-105 AF Nikkor.

Do you have some software on your computer that imports photos when it detects a card? If so, it's possible it imported them and then deleted the originals from the card, in which case they will be somewhere on your hard drive (in the directory that the import software is defaulted to). I personally don't use any kind of 'Delete originals after import' option, but I know it does exist on some software.

Mostly my M3, but also using my F2 and F3HP Nikons, and occasionally my Hasselblad.

Personally, I would find a Wordpress theme that is close to what you want and then modify it to suit your needs. This is far easier than creating one from scratch.

The best way to do this, I found, is to install the Firebug plugin for Firefox (I believe Chrome has some similar developer tools built in) which lets you view the CSS in a visual way; it shows a HTML hierarchy view and selecting a div or other HTML tag highlights that element in the main browser view. It also shows the the styles that tag uses, along with the line number in the CSS file, which makes finding the relevant code for editing a breeze.

I'm sure I've made that sound more complicated that it is! Try it, it's very easy to see what you need to edit to alter the theme.

I shoot B&W with my F3HP and bag of primes all the time, for personal and paid work. The bag also includes an F2 as a backup and/or colour body. The F3 has to be my favourite camera of all time, and using it is pure joy! I shoot mostly candid portraits and I have a 105mm F/2.5 AI almost permanently bolted to the F3; it's a superb combination!

Like Ellis, I use Lightroom for renaming either while importing, or after the fact. It's renaming feature is very flexible and can certainly handle your example renaming scheme.

I'm with you Geoff, I find a monorail perfectly suitable for walking around shooting street scenes. I use a Sinar F2 with bag bellows which I carry (lens mounted) on a Gitzo CF tripod slung over my shoulder. Everything else (darkcloth, two additonal lenses, 18 film holders, meter, filters, etc.) fits in a medium-sized shoulder bag.

Honestly, this setup is no heavier or any less manageable than when I used to lug around a couple of D2s and lenses while shooting sports. I just find the whole field camera/backpack thing far too much trouble. If I were hiking, however, I may change my mind pretty quickly (and for 8x10, there is no way I'm hauling my Sinar P out anywhere)!

If they're analog prints, you may get some extra noise; apart from that, they will be fine.

-

No, I won't be upgrading my D2X yet, as it still does everything I need in the studio (and it's only worth about $3.50 now)! For anything requiring more detail, resolution, dynamic range, etc, I pull out the 4x5 or 8x10 :)

Just re-read your original post and realised that you didn't actually mention that you even have Photoshop (there I go assuming again). Anyway, if you do, see my other post; if not, please ignore!

Cheers,

If you have the history log enabled in general preferences, you'll have history info in your metadata (or a text file, depending on your prefs). If not, you may be out of luck. Enable it if you haven't already.

Oh, I have CS5; not sure if this feature was in previous versions.

They both hold and shoot Polaroid/Fuji film the same. The later Mamiya backs have an ISO setting and electrical contacts that tell the AE prism what speed the film is. Apart from that, no difference.

Welcome Martin,
Some nice work in your Flickr stream. Although I've lived in the U.S for ten years now, I'm originally from Amesbury. Lots of cool locations around you, so just get out and shoot!
Cheers,

These images are fantastic! Really well done. Due to a recent knee injury, I've been taking a break from large format and have been using my FE2 and 105mm lens again, and I am amazed all over again as to how great this combination is!

I'd love one please, if you have any left!

Even though my F3HP is my daily (35mm) shooter, I love my F. And my F2. Now I just have to convince myself that I don't need (want) the AF F bodies too...

Are you looking for locations to shoot the B&G, or locations to just shoot for yourself? If B&G shots, then old city and market square areas are good.

-

Simple test? Seriously? Do you think anyone looking at your images is going to whip out their handy microscope and analyse them? If so, you may want to question your images. Unbelievable!

"However, I'm dying to get into a studio and work with models, etc."

Maybe this is why your girlfriend doesn't want you buying the DSLR! Life is short; buy the camera and have fun!

1. Yes, perfectly possible.
2. Not used the Calumet processor, but I think I read that, unlike the Polaroid version (which I have), it doesn't need power to operate.
3. Currently there is no one producing 8x10 instant film. The Impossible Project has a teaser on their site about potentially making a replacement in the future, but nothing is confirmed. Also, I am not particularly impressed with the SX-70 film they recently launched, although I would love to see a good instant 8x10 film available again.
