I've had that photo on my screen for the last 20 minutes. Still can't get tired of it, still wondering, still ... enjoying it !

    Nothing else really matters...

Everything here is at the same time so full of tensions of all sorts, but at the same time everything also seems so "easy" and quiet ...

    Brilliant !

Thanks a lot for your emails, sorry I didn't reply, will do it soon. Take care

Personally, I agree with Fred about your original crop.

The light on the face is perfect, the expression very strong, and without the original crop and the overexposed background that would have been "just" a very good portrait, where as with every good portrait, our spectator's eye would be attracted straight to the man's eyes, and only then spend some time looking at the whole photo.

Now, with this version, we can't but start to look at the background first, then at the man's eyes, and it becomes impossible to break this eye contact ! > That is just more powerfull than a "simple" good portrait.

  1. Thank you for your time and comments.

Here is now a little larger version, but I'll get a proper resizing with photoshop when at home this week end.

The thing is : this photo like all the other photos on my PN portfolio are done with a pocket camera : I can't get any depth if I'm not extremely close and use the macro, and I choose not to "manipulate" any of the photos here ( as per PN definition of photo manipulation ).

That's as close as I could get to this little fellow without scaring him, as Rajat perfectly guessed.

Thanks a lot for your interest.

This has been shot through the window ( not too clean a window as we see with the blury lampost ).

But I discovered that on sunny days, the lampost coupled with the camera, at a certain time were forming an almost perfect equilateral triangle.

The trick here was to wait for an interesting scene, as composition here couldn;t be enough for a good photo in my opinion. That day, I saw the two men resting, sitting on the pavement, and decided to take the shoot.

This is when the other two men just "appeared " ... I only waited for the first man to cast the shadow of his head in the square on the pavement to shoot.

And went back to work ...

Stefano Bonini : if you come around this photo again, I would love you to leave a little comment : I really thank you very much for your rating, and the courage to do it without using the anonymous system, but am really looking forward for a little discussion about your thoughs.

    Cheers

    Joyeux anniversaire alors !

Best wishes ( any #first birthday seems to always be a good new horizon opening up, and with this photo you definitely start as early as you can !! )

Edit : As for your photo with a lot of 3s, i can see ... 8 of them in your photo called "For August 8, 08"

  2. I came just to read again the long text I remembered having written, but too quickly with the idea of editing it a little bit.

I edited what I saw ( which probably leaves a lot tobe corrected ), and then discovered your very kind words.

Thank you very much for that.

I was trying to figure out something funny to finish this answer, but as it was certainly a way of trying to avoid compliments which are still always difficult for me to accept, I'll leave it at that.

How strange is that : Having the same association, my therapist had to get me back in time, and it seems that I developped that problem the same day I discovered the work of a certain PN member.

There may be a connection, but then my therapist had to take some time off to consult his own therapist, because of an association he started to have about orange cones and Japan, so I'll probably will never get cured.

What I really love is your slight tilt of the horizon, making the truck and its load very heavy indead, which in contrast makes Jack's two horns very light.

( Not "that" Jack you were thinking about ?!? ;-) )

  3. Looking at your work, and the extent of your imagination, even if you were witnessing a contradiction to your conviction, it would probably have come from your own mind, therefore not only would you still have kept your convictions, but you would also have had fun ringing the bell ...
