Alexa - thanks for your comment to me, which has made me revisit your portfolio. As others have said this is a stunning shot, just beautiful.
  1. What a beautiful image. Close to a cliche, but the roof on the jetty and the abundance of storks add something new to this composition. The gradiation in colour in the sky is lovely.

I don't often comment on nature photography but this is just fantastic. Sharness and colour of the subject, balance and composition of the image, and that amazingly smooth bokeh. Great stuff.

PS Can't believe this was taken on a compact camera (your details say Canon Powershot) which makes it all the more stunning.

The concept of course is not so original but I adore your execution. The tones, the exposure, the overall balance are just lovely and for me this is a very beautiful image.
  2. I am kind of with Gerry - I recognise the quality and movement in this image but it doesn't quite 'gel' in terms of the elements involved and the final product. I am delighted though that you had fun on this shoot and I'm about to go and see what other work you have up on this site.

So ambiguous, disconcerting, a touch malevolent... the viewer is almost placed in the position of an aggressor. Very interesting. Background and light is fantastic - glad you used enough depth of field to keep that background detail which adds so much to the 'grittiness' of this overall image.

Alister - I was instantly drawn to this as it is a scene recognisable to me as an Australian. This could be a dusty sunrise in any one of a thousand country towns. Simply gorgeous use of colour - I especially love the variation in the grass which almost serves to 'deliver' the shed on a small island of green in a sea of warmer tones throughout the rest of the image.
  3. Just wonderful. The definition in the rope and the twigs in the foreground, the composition and perspective, the overall balance of this B&W shot... its all there. I love this image!

Please tell us how and with what you took this fine image.

A very moving and beautiful portrait. Wonderful detail and tones, but most of all the overall image conveys a strong, beautiful, sad mood.
  4. A lot of thoughts about this image. First, great subject - what a house! Second I like the simple composition. Third, the notes you put and the theme about reminiscing on the lives that the house has seen is touching and interesting, and supported by the B&W treatment. However Fourth, perhaps a touch over-stylised especially the heavily vignetted border; to me this image is all about subtlety and melancholy. But overall I really liked the thought and this work.
