This is just below the second largest waterfall east of the Mississippi River, early on a

cloudy morning at 4 degrees F. Please view larger, thank you!

You and your snow again :-) Beautiful image - I love the stalactites of ice falling into the river bed

Bernard...LOL...I am surrounded by snow! We are supposed to get another 10 inches tomorrow to Saturday. I really was hoping to go back to this spot early in the morning with a clear sky as the sun was rising...but not this weekend. Also, I need to go when the temperature is about 25-30 degrees F instead of 4. When I took this last Saturday I couldn't feel my fingers. So, setting up a tripod and changing lenses was out. Still, I was out there alone as it got light, in a light snowfall with no wind...it was thrilling!

Best regards,

Dick

Thanks, Tim! The mist from the falls results in a gray cast to the right that I just can't seem to remove. I have noticed that snow shots often require a 1 to 1.5 stop adjustment up in exposure to get the "pop". But, you have to be careful not to blow out the details, which I've come close to here.

Have a good night!

Thank you, Michael, Milena and Jean-Marc! The gray on the right is much more bothersome to me on my monitor here at work than it was on my iMac at home. I think it needs some attention.

Richard, I like your comment about being out there (Brrrrrr) when it got light. Isn't it amazing what nature's light without glare offers in the way of terrific images? This is a beauty. Your frozen fingers are rewarded. Thanks for sharing this wonderful image.

Thank you, Larry! This morning was clear. I'd love to go back there with clear sky as the sun rises. But, it was -1F this morning(Brrrrrrr) and I know that it might have been beautiful. However, I have learned that trying to work with the camera at such low temperatures is difficult, and changing lenses is almost impossible without risking dropping one. So, I'll wait for a 20-30 degree morning and dream until then.

Best regards,

Dick

Thank you, Chris! I had high hopes for the light on the day that I drove to the falls to take this. But, it became overcast and began to snow. I went anyway and took a bunch of shots until I couldn't feel my fingers. It was 2 degrees.

Hope all is well and the snow stays away for a few weeks!
