Thanks Shawn. This was my favorite picture from a day at the National Zoo with my youngest son. Some powerful emotion in those silent eyes. This was not in a general display area... I saw this guy through the bushes on the path to the back of the small mammals building. I'll also upload an accompanying shot which focuses on his finger... it really seemed like he was lamenting the fact that only a small part of him could escape the confines.

Nice shot. Check out the reflection on the club.

Great photo. Great portfolio. I thought the same as Don Farra... the car in the background is unfortunate.
Here's a quick re-crop without the car...

Very nice! Did you play with various exposure times? I'd love to see this one with maybe half of the water flow blur.

We got 4 inches of rain earlier this week, so the Potomac River is more turbulent than usual.
I panned the horizon for a series of shots when I was at Great Falls Park today. Created from 6 photos using Canon's Zoom Browser EX:

The falls total 76 feet (20 m) over a series of major cascades. The Great Falls are rated Class 5-6 Whitewater according to the International Scale of River Difficulty. -

Beautiful focus! Great DoF and bokeh. What lens and what aperture? Cardinals are very prevalent in my area (state bird of VA). I saw one yesterday that was BRIGHT red... much redder than the others. And this one is on the other extreme... almost grayish. Does this depend on the season or diet or sub-species or is it just luck of the draw?

The cherry blossoms were blooming in DC during last week's game.
There was a 2 hour rain delay, but other than the wet gray skies, it
was a fun day with our kids and I took a lot of photos from our
nosebleed seats.
I should've used fill-flash on this. I adjusted the aperture
priority to throw the scoreboard out of focus but stay recognizable.
However, ISO was still set at 800 from the action shots I was taking
earlier... I should've put it back on 100... I didn't need 1/1000s
especially with a still subject and IS.

A couple of times each week I hike down our neighborhood walking path to a small creek in the woods. My youngest son also likes to tag along, snapping away with my old point-and-shoot digicam.
This picture is far from perfect, but I was excited to add a new species to my photo hunting collection. He was on the opposite side of the creek. He stayed still and obscured in the brush for about 10-15 seconds, then darted off.
