This left me chuckling. I am not sure why.

It means he doesn't tap out of a mixed martial arts match. I.e. he cannot be defeated except by being knocked out.

This is really cool but the small amount of lens distorsion is driving me a little kooky. Any way you would monkey with the slider to pull out the pincushion in PS?
Also, where was this?
Cheers,
Jay

I'm not sure I find the composition compelling or pretty, but this serves a purpos. I love the juxtaposition of the smily star with the gun. Our country is nucking futs, that's for sure.

In the words of Smoky Robinson, I second that emotion. Gorgeous seen, completely obstructed by darned sign. Like Thelonius Monk's wrong note, it makes the chord.

I don't know why I never left my comments on this, but this is a fantastically fun image, Bob. And bats are one of my great fears in this world...so it gives me the willies even look at it on screen.

..of the movie Pan's Labyrinth.
Contrast and tones work well.

Jeff,
This is a fun image, but does not completely excite me for some reason. Per above, I might like it more if the eye were not on center, maybe use the deep line below it as the bow of a cheek and put it off center to the right of the photo and thus place it on the anatomical left. I like the idea of the viewer looking at this as if to complete the face behind the wood and for that reason might try pushing it off center.
Your post was spot on and should be offered for all p.n participants as extra credit reading. Keeping a civil, nurturing, challenging, and fun environment is not easy but it's what we're trying to do, no?

Ben, this is astoundingly pretty. Cheers, Jay

Leica, ja? This is radical...reminds me of a scanning electron microscope...also an homage to carving into metal. Cheers, Jay

Mamiya 7, 80mm, F16 (roughly), 1/30s, Velvia 100. Scan Epson V750, ACR cropped, PS levels, selective desaturation, noise filtered, sharpened.

This is the MFA...well spotted.

That zoom of yours is so sharp it's almost dangerous. I use the 70-300 VR and its very sharp in the midrange, too, but this is just amazing. Well done. Cheers, Jay

Fantastic image, Dick. Really compelling. Your photos are just great, now, and I like that we have had a chance to watch each other (and a whole bunch of other photo.netters) evolve. Well done. Cheers, Jay

And thank you for the lighting setup.
How the heck does the moondobx thingy work with the ringflash?

Maybe I would try boosting the brightness a bit and then adding a little midtone contrast. Minimal adjustments, but they might help.
Very appealing image.

And black and white suits it beautifully.
I assume you burned and dodged a bit and it looks quite nice. I love it.

Really superb for isolating the face just the right amount. I would also like to see how his face looks from camera low and left instead of just right...it might make him seem more powerful. This is pretty great, though. Cheers, Jay

This is a great portrait, Tim, and it looks like the work of your 85 mm lens...I love it. Cheers, Jay

I saw this kid with his pen, pad, shades serious face, and ipod on as he sketched coins at the MFA. I thought it was awesome.

This is a killer shot, really pretty. Print it big!

This is awesome, Matt. Shooting these must have been fun. I think your photographs are probably as interesting as the artist's sculptues. They remind me of a group of soldiers or, alternatively, can be seen architecturally. Cool!
Cheers,
Jay
