not a planned picture just had to submit something
just received my D7000 late yesterday and then it took 2 hours to charge the battery
I moved up from a D40 so don't look for any pearls of wisdom,
we'll have to wait for Shun to receive his for a review
it's going to be a long, slow learning curve for me
one of the great things is now my 50 1.8 will autofocus
now it's time to start looking at 2.8 glass....

go into setup menu on camera and set USB to MTP/PTP not Mass Storage

I went into the local best buy here (Tampa) on Sunday they too had the 7000 no battery on the display model anyway
I was able to hold it but without power kind of a downer
they were selling with the 18-105 kit lens only
I imagine that Nikon must have a ton of 18-105 lens that they want to get rid of and found a willing consumer that want to be the first to get the 7000 so you'll see a big resale on that lens soon
pretty sneaky
this isn't really an entry level DSLR and most buyers probably all ready have some glass of their own
I know I have an 18-200, 35 1.8 and a 50 1.8 don't really need another 3.5-5.6 lens
BTW they also had the 3100 I didn't check it out

my local best buy has the 7000 but only as a kit
nikon must have a lot of the 18-105 lens that they want to download and are sending the first examples as kits
the display unit at the store didn't have a battery so didn't get too much from the experience
called B&H, the rep there said they weren't expecting to ship until the end of the month to the middle of next month.....
still waiting

OK how about some pictures with the 7000
mine is ordered and paid for so I wait

Does anybody know if my ML-L3 remote will work with the D7000?
I see a different remote listed for the D7000 (CZDRD9012)
That one has the D7000 listed as compatible
The ML-L3 says it will work with many Nikon cameras including the D90

Well I broke down and placed my order
I'm upgrading from a D40 so of course the D7000 is going to be a major upgrade
The major points that attracted me were
16 Mp up from 6 I realize the MP myth but I plan on using more for being able to crop
internal motor I'll finally be able to use my 50 1.8 with focusing
lower light sensitivity with the D40 anything above 800 is pretty much useless
100 ISO the lowest that the D40 would do is 200
a top screen
bracketing
larger rear screen
magnesium body parts
live view
dual SD cards
I'll probably use the fish eye effect at least a couple of times
I might use the video feature once in a while
dual spin dial controls
better weather sealing
I'm sure that there are many more features that I will love but it will take me a long time to figure them out
things that I wish were there and aren't
articulated rear screen
a utility package that includes tethering capabilities included
the test shots that I have seen are OK but I would like to see the type of pictures that could be taken by somebody who take the picture of the month for photo.net or some of the top photographers on this web site and do some side by side comparisions with D90 D300/s D700 etc
now I need to go check out e-bay for a remote controlled helicopter ;^)

I've been waiting for a while for the upgrade.
would of liked a flip screen but you can't have everything.
when is the D7000 expected to be available?
might as get in early so you have the 2 years before it is replaced.
should be a MAJOR up from my D40

I'm currently using a D40 and will probably be upgrading very soon. Would really like a flip screen but it doesn't look like that is going to be an option in any of the new models. I would like an internal, motor bracketing and more megapixels (for cropping) and a bigger screen. Video with autofocus might be interesting but not a priority. Maybe I'll end up waiting for the D300 successor.

From what I have read portraits are usually taken in the 85-100 range use your legs to zoom in as required

Great pics everybody
hard to narrow it down but my favorites this week are
Jonas' scenic shot of Ireland
Eddy's portrait of Emma
Louis' mask took me a little while to figure that one out at least until I read the caption
Jeffery's reflection of Oxbow Bend
James ....errr whatever it is couldn't find your POW though
and of course Dieter seems to be a frequent standout like the car and the background too...

Some nice pictures so far I will try and log back on later tonight and comment on my favorites if time allows My contribution this week is a face that is on the side of a local building. I don’t know what these are called …façade face? I heard that they no longer put these on the sides of buildings because they have a nasty habit of falling off onto the people below. It was about 80 feet up the building and I was about 60 feet away from the building Using my high school geometry I figure that I was about 100 feet from the face The face is probably about 5 feet high (?) I still had to blow the picture up a bit and crop it but I was amazed by the detail I had a couple of pictures to pick from this week Usually I have a hard time finding enough time to take any. Thanks for the comments from my previous post a couple of weeks back I tried to comment on my favorites from that week but my comments didn’t go through as planned. Taken at 10 PM D40 18-200 @ 200mm f11 3seconds exposure time
