1.
My contribution this week is Chicago's Water Tower.
As I was taking this photo a couple of African American youths came running by and said cops.
Must of been some sort of a game because the next thing you know 2 police cars and a couple of bicycle officers of the law showed up and the youths started doing disco arobics with the law providing the blue flashing lights and the youths doing their hands on your head exercises.
I didn't take a picture of that though ...I'm not really sure how the law would of enjoyed my brand of humor
taken with my Tokina 11-16 which I have since returned when they announced that there is going to be new version coming out supposedly in March....waiting

00a8gQ-450145584.jpg.5762eb3670a2f03efb05a2fcb994867a.jpg

  2.
Tokina announced that they are releasing an 11-16ii with coated glass aspherical and a motor that will af on the non motor type cameras
the expected date for Nikon is March
I purchased the 11-16 and really liked it when they announced the new version mine was still under the return period so I returned mine
hopefully they are reasonable on the price
I'll attach a picture that I took in Chicago with the 11-16 version 1 on my D7000
the picture look much better then they come out reduced to 700 pixels

00a76Z-448489584.jpg.c65590a4436c549fa6bfd227bd08a46d.jpg

  3.
not exactly what I thought that i would see in a cemetary on the near north side of Chicago
I was going to Graceland cemetary to take a picture of the death statue
These coyotes look like they are pretty well fed
sure hope that they are burying the residents deep enough

00a2pU-444367784.jpg.e63ae7fbbf42e67d9e630f919517b0e3.jpg

  4.
The scoupe on the web is it's going for 90,000 yen which I heard is $1200
I don't think that I would like it that much
an extra $100 might not be too bad
maybe that's just until the initial surge of buyers go through
if you search the web hard enough I did find a site or two that has more info on the new 11-16
like maybe they had tested one out?

  5.
I don't know how to find out the cost on the new lens or who to contact
anyone out there have any ideas?
the original website had a price in yen I can't even find that again
there is a $40 rebate on the current model 11-16
I can't imagine them jacking the price up too much or it will cost more than the Nikon 10-24
I realize 2.8 vs 3.5/4.5 but there is a longer throw on the Nikon plus AFS

  6.
http://www.nikonplanet.com/3rd-party-lenses/tokina/improved-version-popular-lens-tokina-11-16/
Just noted from a different post announcing the Tokina 70-200 F4 that Tokina is also announcing the release of a new version of the 11-16 with an internal motor aspherical lens and coated glass
Release:
A very good news for DX users: Tokina announced a new version of their very popular 11-16mm f/2.8 lens. The updated lens includes an aspherical element, new coating for improved performance and a Silent Drive-Module autofocus motor. Now one can use this lens even with Nikon DSLR cameras that don’t have an integrated AF motor (D40, D3100, D5100 etc). Nikon version of this lens is supposed to start shipping in March, 2012.

This lens will bring for sure butter on bread to DX shooters! Bravo Tokina!

I just purchased a 11-16 in January and it's still under the trial period

I'm returning that and waiting for the newer version in March

I like my current 11-16 but newer should be better (?)

    I have a D7000 but I also have a D40

I also enjoyed the translation from Japanese "Butter on bread"

  7.
on a slightly different subject
when clicking on the link I see that Tokina is also coming out with a new version of the 11-16 in March
I just picked up one of those in January that is on it's way back
The new version has better glass and an internal motor
I have a D7000 but I also have a D40 for a backup
8.
Just got my 11-16
it had to be raining outside
figured that I would break a few wide angle rules
always thought that they were more recommended guidelines
here is a picture of my willing pup Cosmo
using the new lens

00ZtAj-434619584.jpg.5aef7bf169a606f29586b9b8d8dc6e76.jpg

  9.
Kent GREAT photos but I couldn't get properties to find out which lens you used
the 11-16 was definitely on my probable list
The Bean is something I definitely want to photograph night shot with skyline reflections
other things that I am looking forward to shooting : general night time, skylines, Tribune (there are some great art deco /gothic angles to capture), Wrigley bldg, Marina towers, chicago river(watch out for Huey Lewis's bus),union station, sears tower skydeck, hancock, billy goats: chesseburger cheeseburger- no fries chips- no pepsi coke(I am real familiar with lower wacker),chicago theater, buckingham fountain, china town, wrigley field, water tower, the el
and the food real chicago hot dogs, portillos, bob chinns, there is a great mexican place on 35th street just down from comiskey , ghiordanos is in Florida now so we finally have decent Chicago pizza
maybe long grove covered bridge in snow
I will be pretty much traveling illinois, some indiana and almost to milwaukee.
I really wish that the railroad museum in union was open during the winter looks like they have some impressive stock

  10.
Thanks for the comments
unfortunately I need to build my kit slowly
I realize that I will need an UW (10-24/11-16), 17-50 range 2.8 ,70-200 and maybe a sigma 150 - 500
not even so much for the faster speed just more quality glass that matches the 7000
one of the reason I was thinking 10-24 is because that is a range that I don't have covered (at all, but the ranges that I do have covered aren't exactly high quality)which is why I was thinking on upgrading to a 17-50 instead
I like some of the wide and close effects of the UW great landscapes with foreground
I really like the 35 and 90 macro
I haven't used the 18-55 or 55-200 since getting the 18-200 I don't see much of a difference and none are really all that great on the D7000 they look good to me on the D40
I had the 50 since before the 35 came out so haven't really used the 50 much either which won't AF on the D40 it will on the 7000
I just sort of keep them for a bundle with the D40 for my wife
they just collect dust mostly
the 18-200 is great for convenience not so much for tack sharp images on the 7000
so my go to lens for quality are really the 35 and 90 and my walk around the 18-200
I will probably eventually keep the D40 18-200 and get rid of the 18-55 55-200 and the 50

  11.
I am going on a trip to Chicago for work
hopefully I will get a chance to take pics of:the loop/ night time, architecture, food, snow (don't get much snow in Tampa)
I did live in CHicago for 20 years and I grew up Yooper so I know what I am getting myself into as far as weather
trying to pick up a lens that will make better use of the D7000
I currently have a D7000 with:
35 1.8
50 1.8
tamron 90 macro
D40 with kit 18-55
55-200 vr
18-200 version 1 (I know but I still like the convenience)
SB400 flash
manfrotto tripod w/ball head
I was thinking a Sigma 17-50 2.8 or a Nikon 10-24 or ????
I shoot just about everything
portrait,pets,zoos, macro, night time scenery/cityscapes,flowers,food,glamour
not really wanting to get rid of any of my present kit at this time
Trying to get my wife interested in the D40 set up
any suggestions on lens?
Any special hints on cold weather photography?
Thanks

  12.
Seeing that Matt started it and everyone is posting Christmas images I thought that I would post my Christmas Card for 2011. I create my own cards every year and as corny as they are people seem to look forward to them. Winston is our African Grey parrot,I am the Cupcake King, My wife the Snow Queen and ending with our Bischon/Shih Tzu mixed puppy Cosmo.
Season Greetings to all my friends at photo.net. I really enjoy looking at all of the pictures and reading the Nikon forums.
Now I have to go look for a photographer Nutcracker....

00ZlWv-426505784.jpg.949f294032b5f7816838505baa954c6f.jpg

  13.
or you can use an eye fi pro sd card and not even worry about being tethered
no strings attached
check out their website
images use wifi or adhoc network
great reviews
I haven't tried it yet
but I have a D7000 so I could send jpeg basic to eye fi sd 1 and net files to 2nd sd card
smaller files transmit easier raw might take a while
on my christmas list
price is coming down 8GB 79.99 was 100.00 couple of months ago

  14.
Nice photos this week as usual
15.
Thanks for your suggestions
gives me some ideas for a plan of attack
I charged my battery for 12 hours should be fully charged put it in the camera for a dozen pics
now it is sitting out will reinstall later to see if it is discharged
I know that I will need to purchase another battery just for a spare if nothing else

  16.
My battery on my D7000 doesn't seem to be holding a charge
I had a full charge yesterday took maybe 50 pics
came home downloaded the images
turned the camera off
today the battery was completely dead
