Peter you might be surprised the usage that you get out of an UWA
kind of addicting makes you look at things from a different perspective
Luke come to the dark side

Peter I think that there is a difference between the 2 versions besides the motor.
From my understanding they coated the lens and there is aspherical glass on the ii.
Just checked the BH site the Tokina 11-16 ii is still not posted, it is for the 11-16 version 1.
Not to be outdone Adorama doesn't have the rebate posted either.
attached reply from glenn at Tokina
You can find the rebate information at the following link:

http://thkphoto.com/news/rebates/

I went with the Tokina 11-16 ii. I originally had the original version but they announced the ii when I was still in my return period in January so I returned the original reluctantly. I went with the Tokina mainly for the 2.8
It was supposed to be released in March
Well they finally put it out and I got it a couple of weeks ago
Don't get to shoot as much as I would like but so far I love it but then I couldn't find anything wrong with the original my backup camera is a D40 to my D7000 so the ii will AF on that which is a plus. The aspherical lens and coated glass also seemed to be a worthwhile upgrade
I am an amature so take my opinion and image quality with a grain of salt
keep in mind if you are shooting UWA polarizers have issues also if you plan on doing lens correction for slanted perspective using software shoot wider than you would want the finished picture because clipping will occur
One additional note the 11-16 ii does have the same $40 rebate as the original version. Saw that in outdoor photography and confirmed with Glenn at Tokina but for some reason B&H hasn't posted the rebate info

I will need a ND for waterfalls
can't really substitute for a silky water look

I am planning a trip early to mid October to visit the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina
My brother who lives in Cary recommended the Asheville to Boone route
I will be driving up from Florida so I am open to suggestions
I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions on:
places to see
sunrise / sunset locations, nighttime / star scene vistas
buildings, bridges, mountains, overlooks, waterfalls or whatever
best places for fall foliage
travel guides
or anything else
I have a D7000, D40, with Tokina 11-16ii, 18-55, 55-200vr, 18-200vr, 35 1.8, 50 1.8, Tamron 90 Macro, Manfrotto tripod and ballhead (I know lots of overlap but I can send the wife off with the D40)
I am sure I will need some type of ND filter and polarizer which probably won't work with the UWA maybe pick up the Nik color efex pro 4 software to achieve UWA polarization

Received my NEW Tokina 11-16 ii this week
Fortunately the drought isn't hitting Florida as much as the heartland
So I was forced to shoot inside
Luckily my faithful model Cosmo is always willing for a portrait
Maybe next week I can post something more of a wide angle shot

it's just on pre order
supposed to have aspherical lens and coated glass so it should be at least as good
I had the 1st version but sent it back when they announced the ii version
the internal motor is not that big of an issue with my main camera a D7000
I really liked the original but newer is better?
I hope

Mine is on ordered on line
I've been waiting for this since January
I bought the original it was still in the 30 day return window so I shipped it back
Not that I saw anything wrong with the original
The newer version just looks better (I hope)
Plus my backup is a D40 so the motor will help
Just in case anybody missed my previous posts
Thanks for the update Shun
I left a message on the Canon board that B & H has it available in the Canon mount for preorder also

B & H has the Tokina 11-16 ii available for pre-order for Canon
I use Nikon just thought that I would let you know
Mine is on order

Mike Halliwell pointed out on my previous post that there is a party selling the tokina 11-16 ii on ebay and sure enough it looks like somebody in Taiwan is, for $819 and they have a quantity of 5. Maybe they fell off a delivery truck or something. They are listed as a trusted seller but I think that I will still wait for BH or Adorama

The new Tokina 11-16 ii has supposedly been available in Japan since January and elsewhere in Asia for a while.
Has there been anybody in that part of the world or has there been any reviews on the lens yet comparing it to the original version? I heard that the new version will have aspherical lens and coated glass. Reaching out to the photo.net world wide web.
I purchased the original version in January but returned it when the ii version was announced with a tentative release date of March. Latest word that I have heard now is maybe September and it will probably take some time for the issue price to adjust down.
I'll attach a pic that I took with the 11-16 when I had it during a trip to Chicago in January. I liked the lens a lot but as a caveat it was the only wide angle that I ever used.
I have a D7000 so the autofocus isn't a real issue although I have a D40 for a backup which could use the internal motor.
Just wondering if I should continue to wait or just reorder the original. I could do the Nikon 10-24 but I'm leaning towards the Tokina for the 2.8 capabilities.

My contribution this week are 2 butterflies
I assume that they are a male and a female
The female was interested in the flower nectar
The male was on the hunt for a nectar of a different sort
He was chasing her all around the flower garden
Some things never change no matter what the species
Thanks Jeannean for the ID of my Blanket flower last week
