1.
No frosty pictures from Tampa this week Sunday it was in the 70's but it has dipped into the 50's since. It's supposed to start warming back up after today.
Here is a picture of laundry day at the zoo
Favorite so far this week Curt's frost ferns

00cIH5-544732484.jpg.0ebf9997bae1fb674db9a01600f1ccfc.jpg

  2. Dual SD slots are a plus on my d7000 it allows me to put an eye-fi card in one and

send small jpegs to that and raw files to the other slot.that way I can wirelessly

send images to my tablet in the field.much easier to review picture composition etc

    on a larger screen.

  3.
I'll be in Asheville on Monday and be staying there at least until Thursday and after that maybe travel up the BRP to see what I can. Looking for waterfalls, landscapes, night star shots, sunrise/sunsets, foliage mostly
I have Adams waterfall book and nyes BRP book
I'm not big on advance planning more or less flying by the seat of my pants but then you pretty much have to go up or down in elevation to hit max color

  4.
I don't know where I am going just heard that BRP was a great place for fall colors, waterfalls etc. (none of that in Fla) I just am looking to get away from Florida and see some different scenery. I have a brother in Cary NC, no real plans just time off and gas money. I have a Grand Caravan if I have to I can just sleep in there lots of room with the seats folded down.
never been to BRP that's why I was looking for advice on most used focal lengths
as far as selling lens there is not much resale value I'll probably keep them for situations where I wouldn't want to expose a more expensive lens, I also have a D40 and a dicapac waterproof bag to try out
I didn't realize that BRP is closed by Asheville. How long is it supposed to be closed? I was thinking Boone to Asheville, waterfalls (I have Kevin Adams NC waterfalls book) maybe go all the way to wherever just want to take a photographic trip. Thinking of picking up Nyes BRP book for research
I too am from Florida, at least lately, so anything larger than a pile of dirt will look like a mountain to me

  5.
I am going to try and make a trip to the blue ridge parkway in October. Last years trip didn't pan out. I was thinking on updating my lens. I have a D7000 currently but I someday I imagine that I might upgrade to full frame. I currently have a tokina 11-16ii, tamron 90 macro,Nikon 35 1.8, 50 1.8 D, 18-55 version 1, 55-200vr, 18-200 version 1, a decent manfrotto tripod ballhead, singh ray polarizer and VND filter (for waterfalls), sb400 and sb910 flashes. Most of my current lens would not work on FF. I realize people say to buy lens for your current setup not for the future but buying a new camera and then all new lens would be a big investment for me.
I was thinking maybe a mid range zoom in the 16-85 range? I could probably swing the 70-200 2.8 or f4 which would make the leap to FF but not sure that it would be a good match for the BRP. I am interested in the 80-400 afs but not at the current price. I am not stuck on Nikon just looking for a decent lens that could take sharp pictures probably 2.8 lens (?).
Thanks for any advice that you might offer

  6. Call or email Singh ray they are in Arcadia Florida a bit of a trip for me.I did drive there from Tampa once VERY

friendly people.they gave me a tour of their operation and introduced me to everyone.everybody seemed happy to

work there..American made and proud of what they make.I think that they were surprised that I drove the distance

just to visit their shop.I was pretty surprised, I thought that it would be a humungus operation but it looks like a

suburban house.I like Singh ray filters along with most people.I have a polarizer warming filter and a vari neutral

density both thin mounts.need to pick up a reverse grad.you get what you pay for

  7.
Rick thanks for the info
Just rcvd a refurbed SB910 from adorama on Tuesday
Haven't even had a chance to put the batteries in it yet
I have sent an e-mail to Helen all ready for additional info

  8.
Some great contributions this week my favorite is Rod's cherry blossom. Someday I intend on making it to DC to see the blossoms
Kent your father looks in real good shape for 90 I wish that I had that much hair
My contrib this week is a peacock feather (obviously) this is pretty much the way that it came out of the camera not much post processing other than some crop... mostly creative lighting. The details really get lost when you step down size to 700

00baJo-533749684.jpg.9118f9c7b1399b4edab62994e07ef266.jpg

  9.
one more the problems isn't just resizing to 700 pixels on long size
I think my major problem was being in 3D I realize now just wondering where I should have been

00bYtO-532391584.JPG.50a2bc595198a0693b917bcea1a12495.JPG

  10.
when I said not to use 3D tracking it was a matter of experience for some reason I thought that was where I was supposed to be at least that is what I think my major problem was camera seemed to hunt for focus I do have a monopod with a ballhead don't know how much it would be required at fast shutter speeds in the range of 1/1000 t0 1/2500 with vr no longer length than 600mm
I will try to attach a sample still can't figure out the 3 pic thing

00bYtK-532389584.jpg.377ef6bf18eb6897bf643240096b4dbf.jpg
