Loaned my D200 to a D70 owner. He went out and bought a D300 but he said he really liked my camera. Hence, the D300, which looked pretty good to me fondling it for a few minutes. Low light autofocus worked great.

Oh, and beautiful pic Juan!

I got the 12-24 Sigma. Wish I would have gotten the 10-20.

F2. Built like a rock. I am a geologist and had an issue with a rattlesnake in the field, and wound up dislodging and rolling a .5 meter boulder over my F2 in a soft case. One small dent. My D200 and plastic lenses would be in shards if that happened today.

Sigma 12-24 will work with FX but it is a big bugger and it looks like Popeye.

F2 is my favorite camera. Ever. Rock solid piece of kit.

Stay in Santa Fe for a day. Go outside of downtown (N to Tesuque, if possible). It's really hard to be there for less than a day and "get it". Looks like a great vacation so far.

And if you really have some spare time, get a map and hike to the edge of the caldera. Look for Camp May, which is an old boy scout camp up from the ski slope in the mtns. W of Los Alamos. The view is breathtaking. Like a 1200' drop into a hole some 10 miles across. It's not too far, but far enough. BTW, you need to spend a lot more than a couple of days in New Mexico. :)

Take half a day and drive through the Jemez Mtns. You will drive through Los Alamos and then into a very large caldera. The road loops around to Albuquerque. It is some genuinely beautiful country and worth a 1/2 day trip.

D200 VS D80
in Nikon
Well, I bought a D200 for the simple reason that it felt great in my hands. I was a long-time "carrier" of an old F2 and the D80 just didn't feel right. I have fairly large hands and really, that made all the difference for me. I didn't appreciate the additional features of the D200 (as I assumed, wrongly, that the D80 was just a plasticized D200).
Those of you who have jumped from the D200 to D300
