  1. Glenn: I don't get it, what is Timeline suppose to provide that is not already being shown in Trending? I'm interested in what other photographers find appealing but I don't necessarily care to have it pointed out by listing every new like, comment, etc. generated by someone each time they sit down at their computer. It's a frivolous and overly complex function that, as Michael noted, could have been better utilized by a long overdue reprogramming of the Critique Forum. I know you think I'm a negative and somewhat belligerent poster here, but I really did examine Timeline and tried to find a useful function there, but it's empty. Revamping the Critique Forum would've taken a fraction of the time spent creating this fluff. We're still waiting...... Mike
  2. Laura: When you get your new computer try Edge as a browser. I have a Dell with Win10, all up to date, and have not had any of the issues reported here in Help. Now, that doesn't mean Ver2 PN will DO what you want, but what it does do is consistent and what the programmers intended (however misguided). I think Edge is the difference. I was surprised when Glenn said only 3% of the users are using Edge, it's not a bad browser. Mike
  3. I concur with Michael's #12 comment above, but what I found fascinating are the usage statistics above. My usage involves just Safari on my iPad, with several constant glitches involving date/time display and some funky menu jumps; but here's the surprise. On my desktop (a decent Dell running Win10) I use Edge and have not had any of the software, hardware, browser, etc. issues that've been reported here since the roll-out of Ver2. Now I temper that strange news with my continued disappointment with the functionality of Ver2, but it would be interesting to know if any other Edge users have had any difficulties. I'm just surprised that there are so few Edge users, it's not a bad browser platform. Mike
  4. No, now the challenge is to find and follow a critique. That is not hiding under an obscure click, it's totally missing in action.
  5. Julie: Come on, you post a mean argument, compose some pretty decent sentences, but in your haste to create a single minded, Don Quixote style defense for all things PNet you forgot to read what I really said. Your quote below is what caused all this confusion and with all the other issues this poor site has, it doesn't need your dogmatic obstructionism. QUOTE="Julie H, post: 5599697, member: 3885114"]It would be very helpful if you would provide us links to specific examples. If we can see what these sites are doing, what kind of hundreds of people are willing to critique, what kind of picture hundreds of people want to critique, and what kind of critique such hundreds of people are willing to contribute, we can learn from them how to do p.net better. It's my contention that people simply don't want to do critiques any more. Period. Old-timers loved it, still love it and want it, but they're the dinosaurs. The rest of the world has found out that, while asking for a critique is essentially free, doing or giving a critique is time- and effort-intensive with no reward. Why on earth would any rational person do such a thing? The good news for you is that my membership runs out today and I go to join all the other hordes of friends I've made here on PNet in the last 10+ years. Unsubscribed. Mike
  6. Well, all these statistics flying around are hard to follow and without context fall into the, well, that's interesting category. However, I feel obligated to note that I never once said other sites were "receiving much more comments", haven't had the inclination to even try to document any such research, and don't really care except in the undeniable fact that the very few images being posted on PNet for critique are not getting comments. Primarily because there aren't enough active members left to comment. What I really said is quoted below and I stand behind my comment without hesitation. Mike
  7. Glenn: (Please peruse this thread to update your memory.) Well, my subscription expires today and "My Activity" is still not sortable so that comments can be easily monitored so I guess our deal is null and void. Even though I'm not having any of the many issues I see reported here in Help, the inability to track my comments and follow other comments on images where I've made comments in a concise and functional manner is the deal breaker, I can't in good faith renew until functionality is restore to the Photo Critique Forum. That is what this whole site is about.... isn't it? Mike
  8. Ha! Guess not. Although an owner of both I still only have one type Apple that I don't hate and it has red peeling :)... Mike
  9. Fred: If you want to circumvent these two screens you posted, try this. When viewing the thumbnail image in Photo Critique you can mouse over the picture and get a pop-up dialog box with the image title, photographers name, number of views, comments, etc. In the upper left of that box is a small choice called "View". If you mouse over that selection you'll see "View [New Window]". Select that and you'll go straight to an image view and opportunity to immediately comment. Just discovered that while trying to follow this thread and the confusing instructions. This little View button is actually pretty straight forward and useful... Mike
  10. Laura: No, from your precise syntax I was certain you knew what you were talking about. It was I that tried for a tad of gallows humor; guess that fell as flat as all my other requests and explanations for improvement. Mike
  11. Ahhhh, nothing like subliminal motivation for PN management! Ha!... Mike
  12. Ergo my contention all along that the entire site was set up by junior programmers that have never held a camera, much less participated on a photographic forum/critique setting. I wholeheartedly agree. There used to be a group on PN called the 5 or 5er or something like that, that agreed to try and give 5 critiques during every site visit. Alas, I admit to offering my share of "Good shots" but offered them in the same spirit as when I receive short comments; that being, I'd rather receive a short comment of appreciation than nothing at all. By the way, I've stopped participating in the critique forum until management participates. Looks like I'm in for a long standoff.... Sigh! Mike
  13. LOL, "Get thee behind me, Satan!" Take care... Mike
  14. No, I don't have to provide sources, this site is on trial, not me. Besides, it wouldn't be very nice of me to provide a listing of PNet competitors. Julie, let it go. You're battling windmills all alone. I've made comments that, while blunt, are factual. If they cross any boundaries, then the mods are welcome to remove them.
  15. If there's any logic in your statement, it escapes my understanding. So, it's a sign of the times that a pitifully produced and presented site is so non-functional that members leave in droves and don't post for critique because 1) no one is looking or commenting and 2) even if a comment is made no one knows it or can track the comment thread? Tell that to the other sites where comments are made and hundreds of views occur in a few hours. I only make these entreaties to management and continue to monitor progress (and lack thereof) because of the many years of member commaraderie I've enjoyed here on PNet. Sadly I don't see any way to reverse this fiasco to reclaim that community.
  16. Thanks, I think communication has been in short supply by a besieged management to a frustrated, helpless contingent of members. The stated lack of time to properly respond to seriously concerned members and the time saved by short, confusing answers is counter productive, as evidenced by the stagnant condition in this help forum and the disappearing membership. You're down to about a dozen (a loose guess) contributors to the Photo Critique and only a few who stubbornly continue to try to solve their software issues here in Help. I'm not in that "few"; my request for the ability to track comments is a moot point since there are no members left to track. Communicate, communicate, communicate and revamp this dog or just do us all a favor and pull the plug... Mike
  17. Norman: You are correct about the link, I didn't see the response as a link. However, "My Activity" won't help Herman any more than the terse response. My Activity does catalog comments but just try and follow any particular image there, it's maddening since they're presented in random order (not newest on top). A simple sort function that I've lobbied for till I'm tired of asking would fix it. Thank you for catching the link, it does make the comment more palatable. Glenn: Never let it be said that I can't see my mistakes and offer my apology for my hasty post. I will temper that apology with the fact that the Emperor still doesn't have any clothes. Mike
  18. Glenn: I'm flabbergasted. You have hundreds of years of cumulative memberships that are so frustrated they're dropping like flies and all you offer is a flippant remark? I think Herman deserves a sincere apology and a thoughtful, honest response. Of course how you handle it is your choice. Mike
  19. Not Here

    Kacie W

Great eyes and smile. Excellent b/w portrait, too... Mike
  20. Glenn: Here are a couple of screenshots from my "Your Activity". Note that in the first image below (from the very top of my activity list) the dates "within" the image are sorted correctly BUT, if you'll note in the second image below (from near the bottom of my activity list), the dates of 8/4/17 and 8/5/17. My contention is that, in this small example, the bottom most image should be at the top of my activity list, in all time categories (Last Week - Last Month - 3 Months). However, something is still amiss because my comments on the bottom two images aren't showing, even though this screenshot is from my activity. It's really a double sort with the comments attached to each image sorted with newest on top (seems to be happening) PLUS the images themselves should be sorted with the newest comment on top. Your example page would work to satisfy me IF the proposed links will sort the whole image list. I'm in no way inferring that we should return to Ver1, but the comment activity worked perfectly there if you want to use it as a model. Mike
  21. Hector: I haven't received an email either, the notice appears in "My Account". You have the choice there to "cancel subscription" or not.... Mike
  22. I and many others have been begging for help since the release of Ver2 with absolutely minimal improvement made since that date. Strangely, I haven't been plagued by the litany of problems faced by most members and have only requested one thing over and over. All I've asked is that member comments and follow-up comments be trackable in some logical fashion. In response an upgrade added "Your Activity" which prima facie seemed workable; but it's not. All the images and comments are still random, requiring page upon page of portfolio scanning to find the applicable image and/or comment. A well meaning post, requesting that the images and comments in "Your Activity" be sorted in date order with the newest on top, has been totally ignored after multiple postings under several subject lines. I mean, how difficult is it to sort a database query; the most basic of database commands!? Long story made short, after 10+ years of photographic camaraderie, helpful instruction, seriously good photography and light hearted comments, I've been notified that my membership runs out on September 15th and you know what.... I can't work up a single reason not to let it run out. Now that's a sad state of affairs; for a business to go down the drain and lose customers over a simple sort command. Best wishes and good light to the 35 or so members still posting. To management, you need "Help". Mike Mancil
  23. Laura: Like Bill, I also removed all my photos; one at a time and it took part of two days. I have two images that were POW winners that won't go away so I just made them private so that they don't show. A sad affair all the way around when I see everyone giving up (like me) and leaving. I guess it's some sort of macabre hope that things will recover that makes me check this "Help" thread; but mostly it's just gallows humor since I don't see any recovery possible or probable.... Mike
