    Bench

          18

I like the composition as is, perhaps a little less foreground but the bench should not be cropped out and balances the strong sky It nicely reflects the cooler tones at the topmost parts  of the shot,

    I very moody composition, Lovely

  1. This is a beautful picture indeed. Very succesful in Black and White

However this is a request for critique, I would say that it could have been even better with a slightly more diagonal placement wrt the frame

    The Wind (II)

Great detail and great work....no mistaking the wind in the picture. The unique texture of the paved ground provices great contrast for the form in black. Detail is excellent.
I would have positioned the figure at slightly more to lower left corner and would have darkened the corners a bit.

    Lookout

Fantastic composition, eyes, hands all working well, and the hole in the tarp, through which we can see the window on the other side. We cannot see the whole face but the expression cannot be mistaken.
My only comment is that I would reduce the contrast a bit.

Remarkable indeed! The lines are working - on the wall as well as the shiny sidewalk. The highlight and shadow details are great, there is an element of drama and nicely composed - in summary a very successful B&W work.

  2. This is a very nice portrait, the detail is great and mood is nice too. The tone is bluish grey but this is not a sad picture so I would look to warm up the tones a bit. If possible I would taken the shot slightly more from the front and that would have helped to position the head a bit off center and would have shown more details of the mans intense concentration

This is a very nice picture, especially the lighting is great and colors are very nice too. The small bank of light and the strip of brick wall is bit of a distraction, I would have composed the shot without it and positioned her a little to the right away from the center.

  3. Restroom in the White Sands National Monument in New Mexico. The time

was morning and the forground was flat white, the background sky was

    light - overprinted with dodging.

  4. I viewed this photo up close since it caught my eye in the recently uploaded gallery. I like the muted colours of thi picture - overall a well balanced shot. Wish there was something like a small bright flower peeping out of the concrete to add an effect to this nice colour harmony - but that would be extending reality by imagination.

    Good job.

The lady was in the wheelchair and the young man was playing under a

tree...later he stepped aside and started talking to the old lady who

was listening to the music. The light was good and I couched low to

    get the frame.

I was on the street on the day of the New York City Marathon and this

couple was watching the race from their apartment window above the

    street.

I agree with the fact that the skin tones are flat in this scan, that is the best I could get from the scan. I could probably increase contrast locally at several places using photoshop. The actual print that I made is much better though

    Nude Dune

The depth is all right in the print since I used a small aperture on a tripod. I lost detail in the very low resolution scan. Thanks for pointing this out.

I did see it in the viewfinder, I have another picture of the dunes which looks like two bodies lying side by side taken minutes before this one. Sand is sensual in this kind of light.

    Sipapu

Sipapu is a Navajo word meaning 'the place of emergence'. The Navajo believe that life originated from a hole in the earth and thus Sipapu has deep spiritual significance for the Navajos. When I was taking this picture I was thinking about a woman...and the life that originates from within her self. The funny thing is that we usually think of desert as a dead place and there was this dune which suggested there was life within.
