1.
Do you want a wired remote or wireless? The 810 accepts the 10 pin connector remotes and the I believe the 600 will work with IR and wired but not the 10 pin variety.

Here is a chart for easier reference.

 2.
Andrew - my statement applies to non-DF bodies.

 3.
Rodeo - totally agree. I think that would be a common sense addition to the ISO selections. Obviously, you still have to make your auto-ISO settings via menu, but it would be nice to easily switch in and out of auto-ISO with a button/scroll combo.

 4.
I think it is an either/or situation. I remember something similar when setting up my D200 Fn button. Here is a statement from the DF manual regarding Fn function:
"If the option selected for Press can not be used in combination with the option selected for Press + command dials, a message will be displayed an whichever of Press or Press + command dials was selected first will be set to None.

 5.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Rodeo, I respect your photographic expertise but I have to hear more about why you favor a direct-screw head. Sure, it is simple and effective but also time consuming. Personally, I do not like repeated threading and unthreading with that kind of tripod head. I prefer an arca swiss system with dedicated body plate (the dedicated plate from RRS helps to minimize the cumbersome aspect of most universal plates).

 6.
Hey Greg, is your camera gear worth $6,000?? Cool!

 7.
Chuck - I think you make a good point about the used value of the old versions of the 85 (1.8) and 50 (1.4). I haven't used them, but the internet seems pretty clear about the D>G improvement. So I wonder why the old 85 seems to hold its value well. I never see a really cheap 85 on my local craigslist. I guess some still need an aperture ring. When I get an FX camera, I envision buying both of these lenses. I would not even consider the pre-G versions since the G versions are really not much more expensive.

 8.
I sympathize with the OP. As one accumulates camera gear, travel photography becomes a "mo money, mo problems" thing. Usually, travel involves limitations so tough choices must be made. One option is to go with a flexible zoom to easily capture images at popular focal length. Sometimes though, I might prefer to think the other way. Choose a favorite focal length or two (or three) and let the gear dictate the photography. It is especially hard though when you are traveling to a new place. When I am really struggling to choose gear, I try to think about photos I have printed. An overwhelming percentage of my prints come from the Sigma 30mm, so that's the one I never leave behind :)

 9.
Thanks guys - next time I'll have to go with more than just a winky face

 10.
Don't know why you guys are talking about small and light 2.8 versions - if you want small and light in a 24-70, Nikon has a version weighing in just a little over 6 ounces ;) Compact 24-70 Nikkor

 11.
Rodeo, I thought at first there must be some mistake about the D7200. Sure enough, if you check Nikon USA pages for D7100 and D7200 you can click on the "What's in the Box" link. D7100 includes the BS-1 cap, D7200 doesn't. Weird.

 12.
Well the D810 can do rodeo :)

Mine is Gas Works Park

 13.
Chuck - I can't comment on the VR repair, but KEH sells first gen 24-120VR for just over $200 (Ex +). This lens has a poor reputation among internet commenters. The f/4 is well regarded but $$$.

 14.
Haha, Mary Norbert's posts are like poetry - the reader finds his or her own meaning :)

And a vote of support for Shun's frank but professional moderating style (at least in my view)

 15.
Mary - B&H estimates availability 9/17/15. I hope when you get yours you will share some feedback :)

 16.
Norbert - sounds like you need to blow off some steam (and I sympathize). Maybe take a walk around the block with your 24-70 for a good workout :)

 17.
I hang out on one of the mirrorless forums, and it is remarkable to hear some of the users talk about "the future of cameras." It is borderline proselytizing. I keep hearing about the inevitability of DSLR death and mirrorless ascendence. Problem is, I have not seen good evidence this shift is actually happening. I think mirrorless is great. I just think it says more about people when the conversation turns into a zero-sum game (i.e. it must be one or the other).

 18.
Chuck, here are the arrangements for the Tamron and Nikkor I don't know how similar or different they are. Certainly, they don't look identical.

It is interesting to see the price difference with the 80-400. Of course, that is 5x zoom and the new 200-500 is just 2.5x. It would be nice if the 200-500 "outperforms" the price point.

 19.
Dieter, I really like the color in the first one.

 20.
I think this new 24mm will be a hit, because it has good appeal for both FX and DX. I am interested to see one in person to judge the size. 72mm filter is not real small but not huge either. I think Nikon deserves credit for getting this f/1.8 line fleshed out pretty quickly. The new lens set provides lots of options for new FX shooters. I hope to get an FX camera within a few years, as the prices are really coming down. My interest will be in the 1.8 primes.

 22.

a lens maker needs to release a lens that is designed to be impressive for its own sake

I like your sentiment, but those kinds of products are usually ridiculed for being "out of touch." Look at the response to the Sigma 24-35. It is impressive in some ways (first of its kind), but most people on this forum were unimpressed.

 23.

With all the optical development in the last 40 years Nikon couldn't match its own aperture from 40 years ago.

I have read very positive comments about the new 58mm. I don't mean to suggest the new 58mm is superior to the Noct. I just think it is unlikely Nikon will make another, faster 58mm.
