Hi there, can someone recommend a color print film that is vibrant and has rich color tones that are similar to velvia 50 without being too over-the-top..I just find processing slide is getting too expensive where I live....and i want something that is cheaper to scan...thanks.

Now that I have just started using film again I want to know what is the best way to get the most accurate colur reproduction from 35mmm film (either slide or negative)..my two choices are having them printed or having them scanned from the negs or slides... its been about 15 years since I have taken film to be developed at places like wall-mart, etc? I understand costco does scanning at reasonable price..are their scans or prints any good?

right now i am using Fuli reala 100, 400 and 800 iso..I do not have my own lab and have been using costco to scan the firsst couple of rolls onto cd...so far the results have been mixed, outdoor photos with good ambient light turned out great but the indoor photos where I used no flash as i wanted to see how my nikon 50mm f/1.8 would perform turned out some rather garish colurs to say the least...I am learning!

having just taken up shooting film with my Nion Fe2 I would like to know how big I can print 35mm colur negative at 100, 200, 400 and 800 iso while still having a sharp picture without loss of detail? I know for digital i simply followed the formula using the height and width of the picture in pixels divided by 300 to give me the largest usable print but having never printed pics from 35mm film before I am lost? also what will give me the best quality prints- printing direct from the negative or scanning at a very high resoltion and THEN printing from the resulting JPEG or TIFF file?

I am interested in buying either a canon eos 1n or eos 3 but when i review various articles some rate the eos 3 as semi-pro while others say it is a pro model..? which is it? when I look at all the features it has it seems to have more modern features than the eos 1n with the same weather sealing but yet it is referred to as a semi-pro model...?

I am taking my first few rolls of 35mm negs to get scanned at the local camera store.....when they scan them do they scan the negs exactly as they were taken or do they do any digital manipulation to get what THEY think will give best results (i.e changing the white balance, etc?).. reason i ask is that i would rather see the results straight out of the camera so that i can learn from my mistakes and I will play around with them if required....

is there any TC that will allow full auto focusing with the older manual lenses on a F100 or d200?

-

I am just getting into 35mm film and want to be able to have my negs scanned for my computer. my question is simple (I hope) how big a scan do i need to have it look really good for internet purposes as some scanned pics i have seen on this and other web sites look really and others look quite poor . there is a camera store near me that will do a low res scan (about 4.7 mb - 1540 x 1024) and a hi-res scan thats about 12 mb....will i notice a big differnce if I were to upload respective pictures from both sizes to a site lick Flickr, etc? the cost is about double for the hi-res scan. .so price is a bit of a factor...

Hi there, not sure which forum i should pose this question in but I want to buy a 35mm slr
as i would like to get back into film now that I have found a place that will scan them digitally for a very reasonable
price and there is something about film that just attracts me..not sure what :)
i have narrowed my choices to either a Nikon f100 or the canon eos 1 or 3 can anyone
here who has experience with both give me the strengths and weaknesses or both manufacturers with respect
to ease of use, ergomonics, auto-focus capabilities and most importantly- compatibility with older lenses
(specificlly will the canon IS lenses be able to mount on the bodies with full IS capability?)...thanks in advance!

Hi all, i am just making the foray into 35mm having purchased a mint condition Nikon Fe2.. the local costco will scan the negatives onto a CD for about $8...(low res scan they call it) ..my question is what is the minimum resolution scan I will need to get great looking jpegs for viewing on the web, posting to this website for comments (LOL!).....

I have just boiught my first Nikon manual focus camera (nikon FE2) as I just have a desire to start shooting film once again.....I am just starting to reserch lenses and after handling some of the older Ai/AI-s lenses at alocal store i have to say that they simply exude a qulaity that isn't present in the modern nikon mostly-plasticy lendes i haveseen....my questioni show good are these older lenses both mechanically and optically compared to the lenses made today in terms of sharpness , contrast , etc? should I buy prime or zoom? I just LOVE the feel of these all metal lenses..they shout BUY me when ever i hold one!!

forgot to ask will 800, 1600 film look grainy as opposed to the clean images I get at iso 800, 1600 with my D200?

thanks for the tips! I do not do my own processing so would it be better to shoot slide film and have it scanned onto a CD or can most places do a good job processing B& W versus colour?

-

Hi all, I have decided to take the plunge and try out shooting B and W film with my recently purchased Nikon F3 (still enjoying playing around wirth it...mostalgic to say the least!!)...I would like to try this out shooting hockey...what spped of film should i use and can u give me an idea of some manual focus lenses that would work..? any other tips would be greatly appreciated as well....thanks!

Hi there, i just shot my 1st 200 pics using RAW..I was inside and used the auto white balance.....the pics do not
look that great..kinda a yellowish tone....so l did not change it to tungsten as i wanted to see what Lightroom
could do to fix the white balance.....i was simply amazed by the quality when i let Lightroom use the built in
auto white balance....the pics were perfect! my question is why was the white balance in camera so much
different (worse) than the one applied by LR2? does it have to do with the processing power available in the
program as opposed to the in-camera processor??

I am curuous as to how the autofocus points works on the 20D...when ever i take a picture it only seems to use
the centre point..I thought it was nine point autofocus not 1 point?
-
HI, I am looking for a good replacement battery for my 20D that is not as expensive as the OEM canbons ($110 at
my local camera store).....can anyone suggest a good alternative?
-
just want a general opinion as to what % I can crop full size jpegs from my 20d at 8.2 MP before i am going to see
the quality deteriorate (pixelate)? ......also on another topic.....is it really possible to see the differnces bewteen a
raw image and a jpeg after the same number of changes have beenm made to them in PS or lightroom etc...? i
have never tried editing in raw yet as i find the whole lorocess very time consuming and would rather get it right in
camera (I relaise this isn't always possible but I try!)....thanks for your help.
