1.
Wow, lacrosse in Charlotte?! Hoodathunk? With Clara's lacrosse season just ended (with a loss to a better team in the championship game), I've turned my attention to birds. I have the 1000/8 "Black Dragon" set up on the porch but these were taken with the Sigma 500/4.5 (all were substantially cropped.) I used the 1.4x TC for the last two.

Quite the adventure Doug--glad to hear that kid's ok. Congrats on the frog!

 2.
It doesn't make sense to me to look at Pentax lens offerings in isolation. There are a lot of 3rd party lenses out there and some are really very good. Pentax is in a pretty competitive environment in that regard so I think they need to pick their shots pretty carefully. I hope they make a point to make quality one of their strong points--they've had some hits and some misses in that regard..

 4.
Sarah, I had one of those. Neither of the conditions you describe are "normal" in terms of my experience so I agree with Doug about having it serviced.

I have the K-mount version of that lens, JDM--It has obvious limitations but the optics are impressive. I'll be setting it up in the next week or so.

 5.
There's a spot near Clara's school I like to visit when I get the chance. I've posted a fair number of shots from there. It's got birds and a varied landscape--including a protected soggy stream floodplain. I was there last week but didn't have the time or energy for a serious birding expedition so just wandered a bit with the 100-300/4 Sigma I had with me for the 4pm lacrosse game (but I did put the 1.4x in my pocket.)

I needed the TC for this one. They may have been at one time (not sure) but Orioles aren't that common in the region so I was pretty happy to get this--it was a very brief opportunity.

 6.
Fun set of photos, folks! Here are some from a walk around the grounds with the Sigma 70/2.8 Macro:
7.
Nice to see you back, Duane! Those icebergs are really impressive.
Doug's snake and Howard's profile also struck me as particularly nice as well as Steve T's cityscapes.

Here are some incidental shots. The first two, taken with the A 20/2.8

This one was taken in my neighborhood with the Sigma 100-300/4.
8.
I have to admit to some concern about the sparse protection in girls lacrosse, Michael, but the rules are much more civilized than the boys game--and strictly enforced. Still, there have been a couple of head-clunking & face-scraping incidents this season.
The boys wear a lot more protective gear these days than we did when I played: all we had then was a helmet (with face guard) and a pair of padded gloves but that was back in the in the "wooden sticks/iron men" era.

 9.
It's been mostly by request photography for me this week.

Mostly lacrosse--a lot of lacrosse! We won this one in triple overtime despite periods of sleet.
Sigma 100-300/4 (of course)

Then there was the group photo documenting a day of community trail maintenance.

Special Bonus: me setting up for the previous shot (Canadians will understand why I'm such a fan of Red Green ;~)
10.

There was only the price increase.

They could at least lengthen the warranty period on cameras and lenses to 3yrs.

 11.

I think Ricoh is managing the perception of the Pentax brand upward

Oh great: "Pentax--the Camera of the 1%" ;~\ Well, if you're going to be a niche brand, might as well choose a cushy niche, I guess. Still, I'd think that raising prices has to be accompanied by other maneuvers (like, say, marketing?) as part of a general strategy (but perhaps it makes sense to re-set the price point in advance of that push.)

 12.
Wow this is a nice lot of photos straight through!

It's been a really nice spring here--for once, we didn't lurch straight into summer. With the cool weather, the bloom has held up very nicely. The redbud has been gorgeous for two weeks and, in general leafing out has proceeded in a leisurely pace. It's been pretty spectacular in the clear bright light we've been having. I haven't had much success capturing landscapes but here are some Spring things (taken with three Sigma lenses as it happens):

Azalea (Sigma 70/2.8 Macro)

Return of the Yellow Crowned Night Herons (Sigma 500/4.5 &Sigma 1.4x TC)

Lacrosse (Sigma 100-300/4)

 13.
Wow! I'd heard that they'd hiked the prices but had no idea it was that drastic. All of a sudden, my foolish lens-buying binge looks like genius--Clara's college fund has appreciated by 50% overnight! Fortunately, I'm pretty much out of the lens market but I really don't understand Ricoh's thinking on this.

 14.
All three of yours are nice, Howard, but #1 is especially lovely.

I got do do some rambling this week
FA 43/1.9 Ltd

DA 15/4 Ltd

DA 35/2.8 Ltd

 15.
No snow here and birds have been few & far between. It's been pretty mild (so far) but still recognizable as winter.

A*135/1.8 [1/320, f3.2, ISO 160]

I got myself a DA 35/2.8 Macro Ltd for my (upcoming) birthday. I like it and have convinced myself that it's sufficiently distinct from the FA 31/1.8 Ltd to justify keeping both.
[1/100, f4, ISO 400]

Mostly, I've been shooting basketball with the Sigma 50-150/2.8. I've been able to get pretty decent results most of the time but in some cases, the lighting is an insurmountable obstacle and the best I can do is 'Norman Rockwell' rendering--like this.
[1/500, f2.8, ISO 10000]

 16.

clearly the film camera body is preferred by photographers for cameras with a finder.

This may just be the QWERTY phenomenon--the tendency to stick with the familiar despite theoretical drawbacks.

My concern is very practical--set a cylinder down on a raised flat surface and it will probably roll off.
