I once had an IX Lite for one summer, and sold it at the end of the summer because I hadn't gotten one sharp image with it. Then bought an Elan 7E and was really impressed. Then got a 10D and sold the 7E after 6 months of non-use, then bought a 20D and now a 5D.

Same in this month's issue of Outdoor Photography.

To me, a good lens is one I can use wide-open on my 5D to control depth of field, and still get good (sharp and contrasty) results. These lenses, when made by Canon, usually have the letter "L" in their description.

If the Sensor Brush doesn't succeed in removing the dust specks, you can use the liquid method but never ever drop fluid on the sensor. Slightly wet the Sensor Clean swab as per the instructions on Visible Dust's website, and immediately dry the sensor with a clean and dry swab. You don't want any liquid under the sensor's glass.

I think the danger with your wet method is that the cleaning fluid could seep around the sensor and get under the glass... which would definitely ruin your day...
I'll stick with the dry www.visibledust.com method.

I wouldn't think of dragging a spatula on my camera's sensor.
I use the Sensor Brush by http://www.visibledust.com because its static electricity lifts dust off my sensor.

I've contacted the dealer and he recommended that I do not try to play with these screws, and return the lens for exchange.
I also prefer this solution.

I have a 580EX.
It will also work on my 5D Mark II.

Best Canon flash is 580EX. Powerful and quick recycling.
Used it with my 20D and now use it with my 5D, and still very happy.

Thanks. I'll try rotating this "hood".

David,
The lens has no lens hood... and it has a built-in EOS Mount.
I'll look at the website you referred.
Thanks.

Nice to have both: The 100-400L for Car Travel and the 70-300DO for Air Travel.

Looks like my 580EX is going to Italy...
100-400L and 70-200/2.8L IS are OK for Car Travel but not Air Travel, in my view.

I use products from http://www.visibledust.com such as their Sensor Brush and the new spinning brushes when I fly and can't carry Compressed Air.
I always give a good blow first with my Giottos Rocket.

I'm also going to Italy. I was thinking of the following lenses with the 5D:
17-40/4L, 24-105/4L IS and 70-300DO IS.
Starting to think I should also bring my Zenitar 16mm Rectangular Image Fisheye?
Why bring the flash?

In 2003, my Canon 10D with 420EX flash fell from my car on asphalt. The flash casing broke in two, and Canon repaired it. The 17-40/4L lens suffered no damage (thanks to its lens shade) and the camera suffered slight damage to its battery door that Canon repaired at no charge, even though I had told the truth.

It'll be replaced next year... ;-)

I recommend the Canon 24-70/2.8L. It's a great lens, and the one I used the most with my 20D.
I have since purchased the 5D (with the 24-105/4L IS) and I still can't get myself to sell the 24-70/2.8L.

I agree with Brick. Go to www.visibledust.com and order their Sensor Clean liquid and applicators. I also recommend their Sensor Brush to remove dust from the sensor. In my view, they have the easiest and safest way to clean the sensor.

I suggest you keep the 20D. I have upgraded from the 20D to the 5D, and find my tele lenses (even the 100-400L IS) a bit short. I'm starting to think I'll keep the 20D for the birds.
I'd also keep the 70-200/2.8L IS if I had to choose.
I don't think you'll see much quality difference between the 28-70/2.8L and 24-70/2.8L lenses.

Would formatting first with the PC solve this problem?

I don't think one should worry about quality differences between these two excellent lenses.
Worry about what you'll do with the lens, and the choice should be easier.
For me, I think I'll probably end up selling the 24-70/2.8L, because of 105mm and because of IS, but this is personal.

Never a filter (except a Polarizer) and always a Lens Hood on all my lenses.
