I have posted a number of writeups in this Forum about Praktica Super TL. You may want to look up the archives against my name. It is a good camera with an excellent lens. Praktica shutter timings remain intact for long years/decades. It is also easy to lubricate after opening the bottom plate.
While on slow speeds please do remember to hold the shutter button until the exposure mechanism returns to normal, fully. It does not matter at faster shutter speeds. But at slow speeds the aperture is likely to open up before the shutter closes, unless you keep the button depressed.

Hi Rick ! It has been some time since I meddled with the Exaktas. So my memory is not very good. I do not recall anything holding back the rewind button lever in Exakta V. I do recall a flat head screw mounted on a spring that goes in from the top plate into the rewind idler and holds in place. This screw is just below the button that you have shown in the picture. One has to remove that screw carefully [the spring will shoot it off; so hold it in a confined space] and the idler gear will come off. Then one can pull the chassis out gradually.
This is about my recall. I shall try and check with the camera and report to you if i find any more details. Some of the Exakta Vs came differently made. So let me see how my sample is.

Hi MTC! It is easy to get tired with an Exakta especially of the VX series. But please do not throw it away. These cameras will work even if 50% of the system is broken. I have several of them and have brought many of them back to life! Good luck. sp.

You may try a Fed or Zorki with an LTM wide angle lens. The bodies will be available aplenty. The lens will take some search and waiting. These cameras are less expensive but by no means "cheap" in quality. The Soviet wide angle lenses also may be more expensive than the regular 50mm lenses. The Feds and Zorkis make magnificent pictures. You may search for posts on this Forum's archives for examples. Best, SP.

Hi Rick! the tones are rich. And i love the gradation. My eyes cannot see much of the grain that you mentioned. They, possibly, contribute to the tones that I perceieve!

Hi Davecaz! For cleaning the camera, mildew fungus etc., mix 50-50 of peroxide and household ammonia and apply the same to the camera to wipe. it will remove all infections. Then you can [optional] use petrol [gas] to dry clean the camera and place it under the window Sun light. Your camera will become very clean. Best. sp.

I could not get much information on the bee hive. A few travellers have mentioned it in their review of the visit. One of them was stung by two bees. So it does seem to exist. There are no recent details about the size, maintenance, etc. Regards, sp.

I am providing only a link here, as the picture is by BING. It is about the kailasnath [siva] Temple at Ellora. The temple was carved from the top on a single rock into the ground. It is one of the most beautiful structures i have visited. As an architect I cannot imagine how someone conceived this effort and how it was executed to such precision.
It is about a thousand years [plus] old. I am sure many in this Forum will find it interesting. Especially, I think that JDM will be interested as an archeologist. The structure is also photogenic in many angles as the Sun sheds light below ground level into depths.

Both plastic and metal cassettes come in good and bad quality. One could buy plastic cassettes from the Californai outfits in lots of 25. The felt is not a problem; it stays well for a long time. The cap thread may become loose after long use, like two years etc. To be on the safe side one could use paper tape on the cap to secure it doubly. Some of the best metal cassettes were made by the Soviets for FED cameras. They did not need even felt lining. They have press button locks after the twist. But they are very expensive. Good luck. <p>You may want to try the Praktica L-series from L to LTL3, MTL3 and MTL5. I would recommend MTL3 as the most stable of the series. The Meter will work in most of them even in C.E. 2017. Also the meter can be calibrated easily. Perhaps you know that many of the Pentax cameras were design aided by Praktica. Even the name Pentax is said to be sold by Praktica to Asahi.<br>
The mount is M42 thread; so you get a whole variety lenses, made all over the world. You can also get a K-mount adapter for the M42. According to Thomas Tomassy the K-mount was designed by Zeiss Jena [part of Pentacon conglomerate] for Asahi Pentax K series, as well as the Praktica B-series. Probably, they did that in the prototype stage. But Asahi seems to have modified the slots and the locking mechanism slightly. Thus, the B-series lenses from Zeiss et al do not fit the Pentax K.<br>
Regarding the pricing, you could buy four Praktica MTL3 cameras for the price of one Pentax K-1000.<br>
